Things To Do After 10pm In San Francisco

San Francisco has plenty of activities for night owls.

While far too laid back to be a "city that never sleeps," San Francisco is still cosmopolitan enough to provide a fair share of activities for restless night owls. Whether you have recently relocated to San Francisco, are visiting from out of town or simply want to find new after-dark inspiration, the city is chock full of interesting things to do late at night.

Late Night Dining

As a metropolis, San Francisco offers several options for night owl diners. If you happen to find yourself in the Western Addition, Nopa serves wood oven-fired organic fare for dinner until 1 a.m. For romantic upscale dining in Hayes Valley, Absinthe is open until midnight every day except Sunday and Monday. In the Marina district, Pizza Orgasmica serves pies until midnight Sunday through Wednesday, 1 a.m. on Thursday and until 2:30 a.m. on the weekends. 15 Romolo on North Beach serves pub fare until 1:30 a.m. every night.

Bars

The San Francisco bar scene is very much divided by neighborhood. Punks and the alternative crowd head to Haight-Ashbury, which was formerly known as the center of the hippie movement. The Marina is filled with watering holes for young professionals. The Castro is the place to be if you're gay, while the Mission has several drinking establishments catering to lesbians, such as Lexington, Wild Side West, and Stray Bar. The Mission is also hipster central, with many bars catering to the cool crowd. If alcohol isn't your thing and you want to take advantage of San Francisco's still-thriving coffeehouse scene, head to North Beach, where many of the cafes stay open late.

Clubs

For clubbing, head to the North Beach district. Bimbo's 365 Club is an upscale establishment catering to a middle age and older crowd, with live entertainment; Robin Williams frequently performs his stand-up routine here. Jazz enthusiasts head to Jazz at Pearl's, named the best jazz club in San Francisco by the San Francisco Chronicle. If you just want to dance the night away, Fuse is famous for having some of the best DJs in town. Mojito, on Grant Avenue, is a stylish dance spot for Latin sounds. For entertainment of a more adult nature, head to Broadway Street between Columbus and Samsome Street, an area famous for its strip clubs.
