Steps To Get Zombies On Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

Since its introduction in 2004, Rockstar North's "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" has entertained video gamers through its combination of car-driving and third-person shooter gameplay. Set in the fictional Western state of San Andreas, the game features a violent depiction of contemporary urban America that places the player in the role of a fast-driving criminal who can interact with an assorted cast of characters, including zombies, which appear in the game as an optional cheat.

Instructions

1. Begin by starting a new game file. Note that you must start over in order to activate the zombie cheat. Keep in mind that you can keep your current game and start a new game on another file by selecting "Start" from the main menu, then clicking on "New Game."

2. Navigate to the starting point of the "OG Loc" missions. Travel to the burger shop, then move your character to the "OG" icon to begin. Begin the "Life's a Beach" mission, but keep in mind that you can only start this mission between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

3. Strike up a conversation with the DJ once you have started the "Life's A Beach" mission. Remember, the DJ can be found by walking up to the yellow icon located on the beach. Respond in a positive manner when prompted, then start running away when the DJ asks you for a dance.

4. Activate the "Angry Pedestrians" cheat once you run away. The "Angry Pedestrian" cheat will turn all of the pedestrians into zombies. Begin by pressing "Down" on your controller, then "Up" three times, followed by "R2", "R1" and "L2" as quickly as possible. Press "L2" once more, then wait while pedestrians turn into zombies who will try to attack you. Gather as many weapons and armor as possible before activating this cheat.

5. Activate the "Angry Pedestrians" cheat for Xbox by following the same steps as you would for the PlayStation, however, once you run away from the DJ at the beach, press "Down" once, "Up" three times, followed by "A," the upper-hand black button, "R" then the upper-hand white button. Tap the upper-hand white button once more to activate the zombies.

Make A Barnwood Table

Reclaimed barn lumber makes a charming, rustic table.

Wood reclaimed from a barn is aged beautifully and has loads of character. Barnwood is the ideal choice of wood if you are looking to create a rustic, farmhouse-style table. Solid, handcrafted tables of reclaimed barn lumber cost a pretty penny if store bought, so you will save cash as well as get an attractive table if you make it yourself. A barnwood table would be well-accompanied by barnwood trestle benches. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Form a frame using four planks of 1-by-4 lumber: two each of the 66-inch and 32-inch lengths. Place the shorter planks inside the longer ones. These are the side and end aprons of the table.

2. Square the corners of the apron frame then use a band clamp to keep the frame in place while you connect the frame with two 2-inch countersunk screws driven through the 66-inch side aprons into the ends of the 32-inch end aprons. Remove the band clamp once the frame is secure.

3. Fit five planks of 32-inch 1-by-2 lumber into the apron frame, parallel with the end aprons and spaced evenly along the frame. Push them down to be even with the bottom of the frame. Secure these support planks as you did with the apron frame.

4. Lay three planks of 70-inch 1-by-12 lumber side-by-side to create the tabletop, which will be 36-by-70 inches. Apply glue to the planks on the edges that touch, and secure the planks together with band clamps to hold them in place while the glue sets. Examine the table and choose a top side, which you should place face-down at this point.

5. Smear glue onto the bottom of the apron frame as well as the support planks, then place the frame and support planks centered on the tabletop, which is still face down with the underside exposed. Secure the frame tightly to the table top with G-clamps while the glue dries.

6. Secure the tabletop to the support planks of the apron frame with two countersunk 1 5/8-inch screws through the support planks into the underside of each of the tabletop planks.

7. Fit a 29-inch piece of 4-by-4 lumber into each corner of the apron frame, standing them upright, for the table legs. Hold the legs firmly in the corners with G-clamps and secure them in place with two 2 3/4-inch lag bolts countersunk through each side of the frame corner into each leg; use four bolts per leg.

8. Turn the tabletop, with apron frame and legs attached, upright. Sand the table using sandpaper, either by hand or with a sander, then use the wood finish of your choosing to complete the table. A wax or oil finish will be in keeping with the rustic vibe of a barnwood table.

Remove Stains On A Microsuede Sofa

Remove Stains on a Microsuede Sofa

Microsuede, also called microfiber, is a synthetic material created from tiny fibers that are woven together to create a surface that closely resembles suede. Microsuede is a soft material and is commonly used in furniture and home accessories due to its durable nature. While microsuede is largely considered stain resistant, it is not stain proof. Cleaning a stain out of a microsuede sofa is possible with household supplies available at most grocery and hardware stores. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Blot up the spilled substance as quickly as possible. Do not rub or scrub at the surface, since this will force the stain further into the fabric.

2. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a clean, soft cloth and blot the stain. Do not rub the stain.

3. Allow the area to dry completely.

4. Repeat Step 2 if the stain remains. Continue to alternate Steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone.

5. Gently brush the fabric with a soft toothbrush to restore the fabric once the stain has been removed. This will help restore the soft nature of the microsuede.

Make Small Bedrooms Appear Bigger

A room of choice

A small room can make a house look cramped. Expansion can be impossible but a few changes will make an immense difference. Color choice, arrangement of furniture and pattern will make a small bedroom appear spacious and more livable. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Shoot some pictures of your room with a digital camera. Determine what particular areas are crowded and if there any items or furniture you want to remove.

2. Measure the size of your room to determine how much you have to work with. Determine how large your furniture is in proportion to the room size.

3. Choose the right color paint for your room. Dark colors in a small room will make it appear even smaller. Visit your local paint store and pick some colorful swatches. Pastel yellows or pinks will open a room up, as will light coffee colors.

4. Observe the lighting in your room. Do you have just one lamp or one ceiling light? Add more lighting. Consider two lamps instead of one plus a ceiling light. The more the room is lit, the more open it will look.

5. Purchase fancy shades and light colored valances to replace any curtains you may have in your room. This will allow more outside light in during the day and not darken the room at night.

6. Angle furniture to increase the size of a room as well. Instead of placing a chair or dresser flat against a wall, angle it in the corner. The furniture will look less crowded this way and your room can appear to double in size.

7. Purchase colorful bedding. A bright patterned comforter and some matching throw pillows will make the room shine.

Types Of Victorianstyle Table Furniture

A multitude of Victorian styles today.

The Victorian Era, named after Queen Victoria of England, lasted from about 1840 to 1910. The furniture styles from this era were influenced by Gothic forms. Victorian furniture is characterized by deep, dark wood finishes, ornate ornamentation and carvings, and heavy and elaborate proportions. Today the Victorian style is still popular, either as an entire decor theme or small touches in a room provide an old-fashioned touch. Does this Spark an idea?

Pedestal Table

The pedestal style is one variety of Victorian-style tables. A pedestal table is generally a mid-height table that has a square or rounded base and an ornately-carved column-like post with a round or square table-top. The pedestal top is fairly small, and it might have been used in Victorian days to display a small bust. Today, the pedestal table adds charm in the corner of a room with a small plant or sculpture displayed on it.

Marble Top Table

A distinctive quality of many Victorian tables is a marble top. Used primarily for coffee tables that complement a Victorian sofa, marble-topped tables are usually rounded or oval shaped and have curved legs. The base is usually made of ornately carved dark wood, and a well-shaped marble slab is placed on top of the wood base.

Dining Room Table

Dining room tables come in a wide variety of Victorian-style options. A large, shiny mahogany tabletop is very reminiscent of the Victorian era. The oval, circular, or rectangular table would often be on top of a base of elaborately carved pedestal legs. This table style will bring a striking and bold character to your dining room.

Write A Ph D Concept Paper

The concept paper is often the first step of a lengthy research process.

A concept paper is an initial stage of a Ph.D program where the candidate student submits a proposal of what they wish to study and research as part of their doctorate. A concept paper is typically two to three pages in length and covers, broadly, the research problem, the context and methods of research. The concept paper is submitted to the Ph.D. candidate's doctoral committee, who may provide some feedback on the concept paper.

Instructions

1. Describe the setting of your study or research. Identify geographical locations relevant to your research, as well as individuals, groups or communities that you will be studying or who will be affected by your study.

2. Identify questions that you will attempt to answer with your research. Consider developing a central question to pursue, as well as several subquestions that will contribute to an overall understanding of the central question.

3. Describe what method you will use to conduct your research or study. Describe the activities, such as interviews or observational studies, that you will use to gather data and insights.

4. Research relevant literature on your proposed area of research and list any relevant literature that you will be consulting when writing your dissertation. Similarly, research any studies or other relevant research that has already been completed.

5. Identify experts, researchers and professionals in your area of study that may be able to provide you with insights and information.

6. Describe the hypothesis of your research, if you have developed one. At this stage a hypothesis is not necessary, but is something that you should at least be thinking about.

7. Develop a time line for your research or study. Set goals and dates at which you will have certain aspects of your research completed.

Make Shakerstyle Window Trim

Shaker-style trim can be made from standard hardwood lumber.

Shaker-style trim, with its clean, simple lines, is close in appearance to American craftsmen styles that grew out of the Shaker tradition. This style of trim is typically similar inside and out. It has a wide, flat board surrounding the window with a slight lip around the outside. The goal of Shaker design is to avoid ostentatious and fancy elements in favor of simpler things. This style of trim works well on older homes and architectural styles reminiscent of the late Victorian era, which is best represented by the quintessential American farm house. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Apply a bead of wood glue along the back side of a piece of 1/8 inch thick by 3/4 inch wide screen molding 8 foot long. Align one long edge of the screen molding with one long edge of an 8 foot hardwood 1 by 6 board. Clamp the molding to the hardwood with four squeeze clamps, evenly spaced along the board. Repeat with each hardwood board. Leave the clamps in place for six hours.

2. Release the clamps. Sand the trim boards with 150 grit sandpaper. Sand enough 1 by 4 hardwood lumber to run along the bottom of each window plus 11 inches. Sand the same quantity of 1 by 3 hardwood lumber.

3. Measure the first window jamb horizontally outside to outside. Cut one piece of 1 by 6 trim board with 45-degree miters at each end. Cut the miters so that the short side is on the long edge opposite the screen molding. Cut the distance between the short ends of the miters ½ inch wider than the width of the window jamb, inside to inside. Nail the board to the window jamb header, ¼ inch above the bottom edge. Center it width wise. Use one finish nail every 8 to 10 inches.

4. Measure from the top of the window jamb sill to the short end of the miters on either side. Cut one 1 by 6 trim board to fit each side, with a 45-degree miter at the top end of each piece, one right and one left, with the miter angles so that the long end is on the screen molding edge. Fit these side trim boards along the side jambs, ¼ inch from the inside edge of the jamb. The miters will be matched up to the miters on the top horizontal trim boards and the flat bottom ends, even with the top edge of the window jamb sill.

5. Cut a piece of 1 by 3 to fit with its ends even with the outside edges of the side trim boards you just installed. Position the 1 by 3 underneath the side trim, flush at each end with one narrow edge against the front edge of the bottom window jamb sill. Nail up through the 1 by 3 into the bottom ends of the side trim. Use three nails in each side.

6. Measure and cut a piece of 1 by 4 the same length as the 1 by 3. fit it against the bottom face of the 1 by 3 and nail it to the wall. Repeat for every window. Do the same for the outside of each window, leaving out the 1 by 3 and nailing the 1 by 4 to the bottom sill of the window jamb.

Own A Mini Storage Facility

Mini storage units are attractive to both the residential and commercial markets.

A mini storage facility stores the various household and business items that are sent for external storage. Often self service, running a storage facility is a hands off business operationally, although it does require a cash investment to get started. Starting a mini storage facility is one way to monetize your space while providing a much-needed service in storing other people's junk.

Instructions

1. Prepare a business plan, costing the various expenses involved in starting up your mini storage facility and deciding on key business factors such as pricing, location and structure. This will include a figure for leasing the premises, in addition to the costs of setting up your business and its identity and the costs of marketing and advertising your storage site.

2. Contact commercial real estate agents in your local area. Ask about the availability of industrial land or units, which will often result in a lower rental cost per square foot, and arrange viewings on suitable sites with the agent. A suitable site will have sufficient space to handle the capacity of your mini storage business.

3. Negotiate a lease on the premises for your mini storage business. Having chosen a suitable base for your mini storage facility, negotiating the terms of the lease is important in getting the best deal for your business.

4. Install your storage infrastructure. Work on how large your total storage capacity will be, and the best way to manage your space. There are companies that manufacture storage pods for mini storage businesses, or you could build your own storage rooms through partitioning custom sized areas of your storage unit, depending on your target market.

5. Start marketing and promoting your storage facility through local media advertising to attract clients from your area.

Tips For Traditional French Country Decor

If classic French decor is a little too formal for you, lighten it up with traditional French country decor. There are still enough of the regal touches--well-crafted furniture, artisan-made accessories, cherished antiques--to keep the look sophisticated, with a touch of Old World charm. However, there is a more inviting feeling with the country look, featuring comfortable furniture, eclectic juxtapositions and integration of nature and natural light. Does this Spark an idea?

Palette

The traditional French country palette begins with natural materials. Wooden beams, stone walls, tile countertops and unfinished or lightly stained wood are common. Walls may be pale, but they are rarely plain white. Creamy antique white, with a matte, distressed finish, would be more appropriate. Mustard yellow or cool gray are other possible neutrals for walls.

However, French country also features bold colors, typically on accent walls, textiles and accessories. Paint a wall cornflower blue and add a painted trim, using stencils, of fleur-de-lis. In the kitchen or dining area, add a splash of color with muted olive green or mustard yellow.

Faux finishes, hand-painted borders, vintage wallpaper and faded fabrics are other favorites in the French country palette. A quick coat of antique whitewash gives furniture, walls and accessories that appropriate vintage look.

Furniture and Textiles

Traditional French country-style furniture is often made of solid wood that has a lightly stained or painted and distressed finish. Look for classic design elements, such as a ladder-back chair, an armoire with scrolled details, a four-poster bed or a bistro-inspired set of chairs and table.

Textiles, cushions and upholstery often feature the classic French country images of vines, wildflowers, red roosters, fleur-de-lis, faded florals, stripes, paisley and toile, a type of design that features a repeated motif against a white or yellow background. The rustic farmhouse look is appropriate in a traditional French country interior, achieved with pieces such as a large wooden dining room table, bench seating or a solid round coffee table.

Accessories

Bring the garden indoors and you will achieve the fundamental look of traditional French country design. Hang plants near doorways and windows to create flow between your interior and your garden. Leave windows bare, or cover them partially with cafe-style curtains in translucent cotton fabric.

Invest in some beautiful pieces crafted in and inspired by the French countryside, such as hand-painted tile murals of flora and fauna or wooden garden art. Display wildflowers and leafy vines in buckets, bottles, pitchers, glasses and vases distributed throughout your home. Fill a painted ceramic plate with ripe grapes or an earthenware bowl with persimmons for a burst of natural color.

Traditional Mexican Wedding Vows

Say vows in honor of your Mexican heritage.

Mexican wedding ceremonies are rich in tradition, with the strongest being the role and presence of the family. Other traditions are no less important, though, and among these is the series of vows the bride and the groom exchange during the service.

Facts

While the Catholic Church has played an important role in Mexico's history and cultural development, legal weddings in Mexico are entirely civil services. Church weddings may accompany the civil service, but the marriage is not legal without the civil ceremony. As a result, many couples in Mexico have two wedding services: civil and church. The marriage vows that a couple repeats during a civil ceremony include several important statements.

Statements

Certain legal officials have the right to perform civil ceremonies in Mexico, and among these are justices of the peace and judges. In performing the ceremony, they present to the couple a list of 11 items that explain the purpose of marriage and the role of each spouse within the marriage. To each of these statements, the couple agrees with a similar version of the "I do." In Mexico, they say "Si accepto," or "I accept this."

Details

While the ceremony is civil, the vows represent traditional statements that would also be part of religious ceremonies. For instance, the officiant begins by stating that marriage is a moral state and the foundation of family life. The vows continue with statements about the obligation each spouse has toward one another. The husband to protect and nurture his relationship with his wife; the wife to show her husband tenderness and consolation and to provide advice to him. Both spouses are expected to offer each other respect, confidence and faithfulness. The eighth and ninth statements in the vows note that both parties should work to control their faults and support each other instead of insulting each other. The vows wrap up with statements about the blessing of children and the responsibility that husband and wife have to set an example for their children.

The Laso

The laso is a traditional rope, either beaded or jeweled (or both, in some cases) that is placed around the couple as they say their vows. The rope is intended to symbolize the statement of union and togetherness that the couple is making. The laso tends to be limited to religious or non-civil ceremonies, however, and the wedding officiant in a civil ceremony will not require this item during the service.

The Trece Moneras de Oro

The trece monedas de oro represent another traditional part of the wedding vows for religious (and occasionally civil) ceremonies in Mexico. Translated as "13 gold coins," these items symbolize Christ and His 12 disciples and are a gift that the groom presents to the bride during the vows. Historically, this was intended to be a statement of the groom promising to endow the bride with everything that is rightfully his -- in other words, to give her equal rights to his wealth. In Mexico, the groom pours the coins into his bride's hand and then gives her a box in which to place them for safekeeping.

Traditional Mexican Holiday Foods

Many foods appear at various Mexican holidays.

Holidays in Mexico play an important part of the culture, and food creates one of the cornerstones for those celebrations. Like in other cultures, foods for fiestas served depend on the time of year and the specific holiday being celebrated, but some of them, such as tamales appear at more than one holiday table. Traditional Mexican holiday foods add flavor and fun to the fiestas. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Tamales

Tamales consist of meat, fruit, cheese or beans encased in a cornmeal covering. The entire tamal (singular for tamales) has a wrapping of a corn husk to hold the ingredients in place as it steams. After steaming, the cornmeal dough surrounding the filling sets, and the diner removes and discards the corn husk, feasting on the savory or sweet tamal inside. These appear year round at Mexican meals, but they have a close association with holidays due to the ritual nature of the tamales. Each holiday has its own filling inside the tamal, resulting in 42 different types of tamales, according to Mex Connect.

Rosca

At Christmas, Mexicans enjoy a bread with a surprise inside representing the Christ child. According to MexOnline, this rich, sweet bread known as rosca, contains a ceramic baby baked inside. All of the party guests have a piece of bread, and the one whose bread slice contains the baby must host a party for the others present on Feb. 2 for the celebration of Dia de Candelaria.

Pan de Muerto 'Bread of the Dead' and Sugar Skulls

Rather than celebrating Halloween in the fall, Mexicans prefer to honor their loved ones who have died with Dias de los Muertos (Days of the Dead). According to Global Gourmet, the first two days of November, Mexicans believe that the souls of their dead friends and family return to Earth. To honor these deceased, Mexicans bake a rich, egg-based bread cooked into the shape of skulls or bones. Additionally, sugar crafted into skull shapes create piles in bakeries where the young and young-at-heart purchase them for a sweet holiday treat.

What Is Quartersawn Wood

Quartersawn oak is fumed to accentuate the wood's rays.

At the end of the 19th century, American artisans had plenty of old-growth oak and other hardwoods for their Arts and Crafts furniture and accessories. Unfortunately, the trees, some of which were hundreds of years old and measured more than 3 feet in diameter, were too large for their milling machinery. The answer to the artists' problem was an old technique called quartersawing. Does this Spark an idea?

Process

Quartersawn wood requires large trees for a worthwhile yield. After cutting the tree into 6- to 8-foot segments, the segments are split in half lengthwise and then quartered. Each quarter is processed, beginning with a cut 1-inch deep along one side of the inner cut. After turning, a second cut is made along the second side. Turning and cutting continues until all that is left is a triangular piece from the outside of the quarter. Another way to quartersaw is cutting all of the boards across the quarter parallel to a line from the tip of the quarter piece to the midpoint of the outer bark side. Because trees are not perfectly round, the first method is usually easier.

Appearance

A bundle of 6- or 8-foot lumber ranging in width from the approximate radius of the tree to a few inches results after trimming. Boards have uniform, straight grain with "rays," indistinct marks across the grain resulting from environmental conditions during growth. Viewed from the board's end, the grain may be perpendicular to the surface or arc to about 45 degrees, depending on the board's thickness and distance from the inside corner of the quarter.

Finishing

After drying, lumber is ready for use. Quartersawn wood absorbs stain less readily than plainsawn wood because it lacks plainsawed wood's open grain due to growth rings running approximately parallel to its surface. Sealer, oils, shellacs and varnishes work as well on quatersawn wood as plainsawed, but Gustav Stickley, master of the American Arts and Crafts movement, fumed his famous oak furniture. Exposure to ammonia fumes in a tent for a day to a week darkened the oak and accented the rays, making a distinctive finish for the fine furniture dubbed "mission style" from Stickley's Craftsman Studios in upstate New York. Fuming is still an accepted finish for quartersawn hardwoods and works best on woods like white and red oak with high tannin content.

Advantages

Quartersawn oak's use in Stickley's furniture earned it a reputation as a premium wood and distinguished its use as a mark of craftsmanship. Although it may shrink or swell slightly in width, it is less likely to shrink in length, warp or cup as it dries and ages. Quartersawn wood also makes superior flooring because of its strength and resistance to liquids.

Start A Group Home

Start a Group Home

Starting a group home is exciting and rewarding--but demanding as well. Group homes are for disadvantaged populations, such as physically and mentally disabled adults, foster children, the homeless or juvenile delinquents. Running a group home can provide you with significant income, but you must be prepared to spend a lot of time getting it set up and ready to open for business.

Instructions

1. Call your state's department of human services to get laws and guidelines for group homes. On the local level, contact your county's department of children and family services to see if there are additional local requirements. To be licensed, you must follow all regulations.

2. Write a "Statement of Purpose" for the group home. You will use this document in countless way, such as applying for licenses and grant money. Include a mission statement, the population you will serve and how you will serve them.

3. Incorporate your business as a tax-exempt, nonprofit business. Called a 501(c)(3) for the section of the tax code it's listed under, nonprofit status will make you exempt from federal and state taxes, leave you eligible for grants, allow you to do fund-raising, get cheaper mail rates, ask for public service announcements from media and give you some limited liability. Use a tax attorney to set this up.

4. Find a house to serve as the group home. The department of human services can tell you what is required as far as furnishings, equipment and space. The home will have to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). You may run into some roadblocks when looking for homes. Some neighborhood associations prohibit this type of business.

5. Set up a volunteer board and start fund-raising. It takes a huge amount of money to open a group home because states have strict regulations. Make a realistic budget. It will be a great help to have successful businesspeople on your board.

6. Hire staff. Some states require a licensed social worker to be a part of the staff. You may need a "qualified professional," also known as a QP. This person is trained in certain types of social service work. If you have children in your home, you may need to provide teachers. You'll also need someone to clean and a cook who can prepare meals that follow the government's dietary guidelines.

7. Market your group home, so you'll start to receive clients. Depending on your target population, market to doctors, hospitals, schools and other nonprofits.Good group homes usually don't have any trouble getting referrals.

Varieties Of Hardy Hibiscus

Varieties of Hardy Hibiscus

The Hardy Hibiscus is a type of flower that is easy to grow because it can withstand much cooler climates than the original tropical type of Hibiscus. The Hardy varieties thrive outdoors as far north as zone four without harm from winter freezes as long as they receive a cover to protect them from a frost. The seven varieties are the Old Yella, Kopper King, Lord Baltimore, Lady Baltimore, Disco Belle Pink, Blue River II and Fireball. Does this Spark an idea?

Old Yella

This Hardy Hibiscus sports a very light yellow bloom with the traditional yellow stamen, which has a bright red eye surrounding it. Old Yella has medium-green cylindrical leaves.

Kopper King

This variety has pale pink petals with a bright red center. The stamen is the standard yellow color and the petals are slightly ruffled. Kopper King has medium-green cylindrical leaves.

Lord Baltimore/Lady Baltimore

The Lord Baltimore Hardy Hibiscus is a creation of Robert Darby of Maryland who crossbred several wild Hibiscuses together to form a brilliant red flower. His next project appeared as a blue and red hibiscus named Lady Baltimore. These two types have dark green foliage.

Disco Belle Pink

This variety is a pale pink like the Kopper King with the same color stamen and bright red eye. Each petal includes bright pink stripes on top of the light pink base color. Disco Belle Pink is a classic variegated Hardy Hibiscus and has medium green leaves.

Blue River II

Blue River II is a stark white blooming Hardy Hibiscus with light green foliage. Each leaf is a cylindrical shape with lobes on each leaf like an oak tree. This variety does not have a red eye but does have the traditional yellow stamen.

Fireball

When it comes to hunting in the wild, there are a few tips and tricks that will help you become more successful. One of those tricks is to use the Cass Creek predator call, a device that creates various sounds of small animals hunted by larger game. For example, the Cass Creek predator call creates sounds of jackrabbits and baby deer, animals that attract coyotes, bobcats and others.

Instructions

1. Research the area you'll be hunting. It's important to know which animals dwell in which areas so that you can use the Cass Creek predator call more effectively. After all, predators are only attracted to the animals that they prey on and will ignore other sounds. Note that the wrong sounds can even scare game away.

2. Turn your volume up so that it is about three-quarters as high as it can go. This creates a sound that is loud enough for distant animals to hear.

3. Select the type of animal call you want to utilize. Press the appropriate button (it will be marked) and hold it for five seconds.

4. Wait for two to three minutes to see if a predator comes along. If one doesn't, repeat the last step and wait again. Continue this process until a predator finds its way to the sound.

5. Reduce the volume once you spot a predator. It should be at one-quarter to half as loud as it can be. Also, reduce the amount of time you hold the call button so that you only play the sound for two to three seconds. The lower volume will make the predator think the animal has wandered off and it will go after it.

6. Space the calls out by one to two minutes. Keep making the calls until the predator is within shooting range.

Woodworking Plans For Making A Magazine Wall Rack

Stores use large magazine racks.

Magazine wall racks come in all shapes and sizes, from personal use racks in the home to large commercial units. Despite the size differences, all racks share some common themes. They have to securely hold the magazines, yet still display their covers. They also have to allow a reader to quickly remove and replace a magazine. If you are looking for plans to make a wall rack, there is a large variety to choose from. If you are dissatisfied after looking at some of these plans, you can even design your own.

Free Resources

Investigate the free resources first. Woodworkers love to share their ideas, so many free plans are available through various media, such as the Internet. For example, Christopher Swingley, owner of Swingley Development Company, distributes free plans for a wall mounted magazine cabinet. Look through all of the free plans--chances are good you will find the right one to fit your needs.

Professional Design

The next step is to purchase plans from a professional designer. These are either off-the-shelf plans or custom designed. Off-the-shelf plans allow you to build racks in a variety of shapes and sizes, depending on the type of rack you want. Conversely, you may have a particular wall where no commercially available plans are applicable. Talk to a professional designer who may be able to custom design a rack to suit your needs.

Plan Modification

You may like some attributes of a plan, but not others. For example, you may like the styling, but the rack is only a single magazine wide. There is no law that states that you cannot modify a plan. Look at the plans and decide which parts need modification. Sit down with a ruler, a measuring tape and some common drafting tools like drawing triangles. Add or subtract from the plan until it fits your application.

Self-Designed Rack

If you are still not happy after looking all of the plans, design your own. However, you have to be an experienced woodworker to do this. For example, you must know the difference between a miter joint and a mortise-and-tenon-joint. Furthermore, you must know use woodworking machinery such as a table saw or a router. In addition, it would be wise to look at magazine racks and take measurements of their critical parts such as the depth of the shelves and the size of the front holders.

Quartersaw Woodworking Techniques

Lumber in Drying Racks

Most lumber sold in lumberyards is cut from a tree using a method called plain sawing. This is where a blade makes a flat cut from the face of a tree, with the following cut parallel to the first cut, and so on. This method produces lumber that is prone to cupping, twisting, flaking and bowing. Quarter-sawing lumber is a method that produces lumber where the growth rings are perpendicular to the cut. This method makes for more stable lumber, but it is more labor-intensive and creates more waste than plain sawing.

How is a Tree Quarter-Sawn?

To be quarter-sawn, a tree is first cut into fourths down the long axis (much like cutting a pie into quarters). Each quarter is then positioned with the point (originally from the center of the tree trunk) facing upwards, and a vertically-oriented blade cuts strips of the desired thickness square to the growth rings of the tree. The first and last cuts are typically too narrow to be used as lumber, but the cuts in-between produce usable, quarter-sawn lumber.

What Are the Advantages of Quarter-Sawn Lumber?

On quarter-sawn lumber, the grain is perpendicular to the width of the board (square to the face). As it dries, quarter-sawn lumber tends to hold its original shape much better than plain-sawn boards. Quarter-sawn stock is particularly useful when building fine furniture projects. In some hardwood species such as oak, quarter-sawing also provides a highly sought-after grain pattern on the face of the board that cannot be produced from plain sawing the tree.

Tips On Sofa Recliners

There's more than one way to lie down with a recliner sofa.

You're thinking about getting a new sofa, but you want something more than just a place to watch TV, something a little different. Don't limit yourself to merely sitting on or lying across this piece of furniture. With the introduction of the reclining sofa, you now have a third option. Research, measure and go shopping equipped with all you need. Does this Spark an idea?

Research

There are two types of reclining sofas, those that have electronic components and those that recline manually. The manual is adjusted by hand, typically with a lever or simply by a push-back motion of the body; you might want to try this in person in a store to get the feel. The manual may have only one or two positions or might be customizable for the degree of recline. Electronic recliners may be adjustable to a precise degree; they also might have additional bells and whistles such as a built-in massager or heating pad. Study the pros and cons of each type before you leave home or by quizzing salespeople at a retail store; if you're looking for one type or the other, you will have fewer choices to risk being overwhelmed by. Research the reputations of manufacturers.

Size Matters

Use a tape measure to determine exactly how much space is available in that perfect spot you have chosen for your recliner sofa. Sketch a layout of the room including any coffee table, TV stand or fireplace hearth. A freestanding sofa may be fine, but one up against a wall or another piece of furniture needs additional clearance in back to allow for the recline -- and in front to allow for the foot rest that comes up and out. Be sure the sofa can fit through doorways.

Usage

Think about the purpose of your sofa recliners. When considering length, take into account how many people you need to accommodate. A love seat works for a single or couple or in a room with more seating available. Many sectional sofas offer at least one segment with a reclining feature, and this might be practical in a multipurpose room or for big families or people who entertain.

Construction

Choose a manufacturer whose reputation is for solid construction. Ask to see the exposed framework and cushion construction. Hardwood frames of maple or oak will take more use and abuse than a softer wood such as pine. Select the fabric based on your needs and intended usage. Leather endures and is user-friendly, especially in homes with kids and pets. Loosely textured weaves can catch on fittings such as zippers and buttons. Modern microfibers are likely to last a long time and clean up well; they also are available in many colors and patterns. Velour and similar fabrics may show wear in spots as the fibers are worn away or permanently crushed.

Lotro Warden Tips

Playing a warden is not as difficult as it seems.

The warden is a class, or type of playable character, in "Lord of The Rings Online," a massive multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG) released by Turbine's "The Mines of Moria" expansion back in 2008. The warden is a tanking class, meaning that wardens are designed to take damage while keeping monsters from attacking other players. Wardens are different from other tanking classes in that they wear medium weight armor, use javelins and utilize a complex "gambit" system, requiring them to perform actions in a certain order.

Armor and Weapons

Use medium armor and a javelin. Medium armor is the heaviest armor available to wardens and a warden's main weapon skills are javelin-specific. Look for armor that has buffs, or bonus statistics, to vitality, defense, morals and power. Vitality and morale add to a character's health, defense adds to a character's ability to dodge and parry incoming attacks, and power allows the character to cast more gambits, which are described below. Fate, which improves health regeneration, will increase power pools, and agility, which increases dodge and parry effectiveness, can be useful as secondary skills.

Gambits

Learn the different gambits. A gambit is a series of actions that build to form a complex and powerful final action. There are 36 gambit combinations available at Level 60. Different gambit combinations have different effects, including powerful melee attacks, attacks that draw attention of monsters and attacks that heal you. The basic actions that make up a gambit are:

"Quick Thrust," represented by a red spear icon. This action focuses on physical attacks.

"Shield Bash," represented by a green shield icon. This action focuses on defense.

"Warden's Taunt," represented by a yellow fish icon. This action focuses on drawing the attention of monsters.

"Recovery," which erases the last action you have taken while building your gambit.

"Quick Recover," which erases all actions you have taken while building your gambit.

Virtues

Virtues are earned by completing deeds. Deeds are challenges that involve exploring locations, defeating monsters and completing certain quests. Once a deed is completed, a virtue is awarded and can be equipped by any non-player character (NPC) bard throughout the land. Useful virtues for wardens include Innocence and Zeal, which reduce melee vulnerability; Empathy and Loyalty, which improve armor, and Tolerance, Valor and Justice, which improve health regeneration. Avoid virtues that simply add basic statistics, as they are less-effective at higher levels.

Class Deeds

Class deeds work just like virtues, except that they provide virtues available only to wardens. Wardens can pick one of three paths. The Way of the Shield focuses on defense, "Master of the Shield," which allows you to create gambits more quickly, and "Ward of Justice," which grants bonuses to defensive gambits, are most useful. "The Way of the Fist" focuses on protecting others; "Deadly Insult" increases the chance a monster will attack you and "Master of The Fist," which resets certain abilities, are particularly useful. "The Way of the Spear" focuses on damage, "Veteran," which gives a bonus to damage and "Deadly Thrust," which grants a bonus to critical strikes, are most useful.

Strategies

Plan your gambits according to the battle. If you are engaging in a short battle, use short gambits. If you are fighting a difficult monster that takes time to kill, use medium gambits. Save your longest gambits for finishing kills. Shorter gambits will use less power than longer ones. Don't be afraid to abandon a gambit; abandoning a bad gambit and starting a new one will save you power in the long run. Different gambits have different results. If you are fighting just one monster, focus on doing damage; if you are fighting multiple monsters, focus on drawing those monsters away from other players.

Kill Wesker In "Resident Evil 5" For The Ps3

"

Resident Evil 5" for the PlayStation 3 is a sequel to the "Resident Evil" video game series. The two main characters in "Resident Evil 5" are Chris and Sheva, and you can play as either character. As you progress through the game, you are greeted by a familiar face: Albert Wesker. Wesker appeared in the first "Resident Evil" game as a seemingly friendly character, but he has become increasingly evil throughout the series. Wesker appears as a boss twice throughout the game.

Instructions

Wesker in the Hangar

1. Locate the four light levers on the first floor.

2. Ignore the lever in the northeast corner, because it is inoperable. There are no light switches on the second floor.

3. Run to one of the levers, and press the "Square" button on your controller to switch off the light. Turn off the two other levers.

4. Run to the northeast corner of the room, and press the "Square" button to break the glass from the rocket launcher display case.

5. Run into a darkened area of the room.

6. Shoot the rocket at Wesker. Wesker will catch the rocket. Shoot the rocket so that it blows up in Wesker's face. Repeat this process three more times.

7. Run over and push the "Square" button to inject Wesker with a syringe after you shot the rocket for the fourth time. A cut-scene will appear after Wesker is defeated.

Wesker in the Volcano

8. Run along the path, away from Wesker when the fight starts. A cut-scene will appear and show Chris falling through a bridge while Sheva makes it across. Wesker will chase after Chris.

9. Press the "Square" button to jump over the lava and onto a thin stretch of rock, if you're playing as Chris. Run along the rocky path, away from Wesker, until Sheva shoots a rocket into Wesker's back. A cut-scene will commence, and Wesker will jump to the top ledge and chase Sheva. If you're playing as Sheva, aim your rocket launcher at the highlighted weak spot on Wesker's back. Shoot the rocket. If you're playing as Sheva, skip the next step.

10. Shoot Wesker with a pistol or rifle as he chases Sheva along the top ledge. Once you have inflicted enough pain, a cut-scene will appear indicating that you must overturn a boulder. Run to the boulder at the end of the rocky path. Press the "Square" button, and press the buttons that appear on the screen to overturn the boulder. Another cut-scene will appear, with Sheva jumping across the boulder and joining forces with Chris again.

11. Keep as much distance between yourself and Wesker as you can.

12. Aim and shoot at his head until tentacles come out of his chest. Once the tentacles retreat, a highlighted weak spot will appear on Wesker's chest. Shoot the weak spot until it vanishes.

13. Shoot at Wesker's head again to bring the tentacles back out and reveal the weak spot again.

14. Repeat this process until Wesker is defeated and the final cut-scene appears.

Tips On Choose Crown Molding

Crown moldings make a room look "finished."

Crown moldings are great way to add style to the transition between the wall and ceiling. Having crown molding in a room draws the eye up toward the ceiling and makes the room feel bigger. Crown molding comes in many styles and colors. Adding crown molding to a room in your house can enhance the atmosphere you've established in your home and is a great way to give a room a "finished" look. You have many options available for the kind of crown molding you choose for your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Size

The size of the room will help determine what crown molding looks best.

The size of the room, particularly the height of your ceiling, will help you determine which crown molding will work best. Some designers believe it's best to have an inch of molding for every foot in height of the ceiling. A crown molding that is too thick can overwhelm a small room and a molding that is too thin for a high ceiling may make the space feel out of proportion. Many people will put up small sample sections of the molding as a test to see which one looks most natural in a particular space.

Style

Crown molding is a great way to express the style of your home.

Crown molding can reflect many different kind of personal home styles. Crown molding styles can include a plain cut, a "dentil" cut (called this because it has "teeth") which is more formal, a "rope" cut with a classical rope design, and many others. Before selecting a crown molding it's useful to look at what is already in the home as far as trim on the windows/doors and baseboards. If these elements have already created a definite style of the home it may be helpful to take pictures and bring them with you as you select crown molding so that you will keep the current style of your home.

Material

Crown molding is available in different materials.

You have many types of materials to choose from for crown molding. Many people prefer a traditional solid wood because it can be easily sanded down, repaired and repainted. Wood molding comes in a variety of kinds including, oak, mahogany and poplar. Plaster molding is the most expensive because it's custom fit to the room, but some people prefer it because it won't warp as wood does, and it resists humidity. Polystyrene and polyurethane moldings, which are both synthetic, are lightweight, resistant to moisture, and budget-friendly.

Area

You can include crown molding in other elements of your design such as shelving and mantlepieces.

Many people prefer to have the crown molding installed throughout their home so it's important to think about what molding will look good in every room. Some designers even suggest expanding the coverage of your crown molding to tops of cabinets, mantles of fireplaces, shelving, ledges for pictures, and even outdoor areas of the home. Adding crown molding can bring elegance to a room and add character to your home.

Texture A Wall With Joint Compound

Texture a Wall With Joint Compound

A textured wall can add style and flair to the whole room. Using joint compound to texture can be messy, so great care should be taken if the flooring is not being replaced. Applying texture to a wall is a skill that can be mastered with the right tools and some patience. The advantage of textured walls is that they hide imperfections and wear and tear better than smooth walls. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Pour joint compound into an empty bucket until the bucket is three-quarters full.

2. Mix the joint compound with an electric drill with a stirring attachment. Make sure the consistency of the joint compound is not be too thick or it will be hard to roll on the wall; if it is too thin, it will not stick to the wall. Strive for a consistency similar to that of oatmeal. Add water slowly until the proper consistency is reached.

3. Lay plastic or drop cloths on the floor to protect it from the joint compound that will fall off the roller.

4. Dip the paint roller into the joint compound and roll it out on the wall. For a normal size room, roll out one wall at a time.

5. Texture the joint compound on the wall by pressing a sponge into the wall. A wallpaper brush with its bristles flattened out can also be used. For swirls on the wall use a trowel, dragging it across the wall in downward movements alternated with upward and sideways movements. Start at one corner of the wall and work to the other corner.

6. Roll the joint compound smooth on the wall if the desired effect is not achieved on the first try. More compound may need to be applied to eliminate the undesired pattern.

7. Let the compound dry for at least 24 hours before painting.

Mission Style Furniture

Mission style furniture embodies the concept of form following function. With its clean lines and handcrafted appeal, mission style furniture is designed to fulfill its purpose with as little fanfare as possible. Its simplicity is striking in its elegance. Does this Spark an idea?

History

Mission style furniture, often mistakenly thought of as being of American origin, actually originated in England in the late nineteenth century. In 1859, the architect Philip Webb built a house for William Morris. Built of brick, the house came to be called the Red House. The Red House was built to function as a practical home. The architecture and furnishing were designed as a whole; it was a holistic approach to architecture and interior. The furnishings were designed to compliment the architecture. They were simple, straightforward and functional.

Effects

The simplicity of style was a departure from the lush and plush of the Victorian era. Architects and furniture designers favored the new look for its clean lines and its cultural statement.

The Arts and Crafts movement, and its style of furniture, honored the work of artisans. The handcrafted styling, the evidence of workmanship was to be emphasized; this made for honest, functional furniture. The mission of the movement was to place before ornamentation the purpose of the piece. By the 1890s, the Arts and Crafts movement was firmly entrenched in American architecture and furniture design.

Identification

The emphasis on workmanship included the use of quality materials. Oak was commonly used for furniture, and the technique of quarter sawing was used to highlight the wood grain. The joinery and hardware on furniture and cabinetry is incorporated into the design, rather than hidden by it.

Mission style furniture is recognizable by its linear appeal and minimal ornamentation. Chairs have straight backs and flat slats. Legs are straight with flat feet. Upholstery is used sparingly in mission style furniture design, but leather and linen are common upholstery coverings.

Mission style cabinetry, such as writing desks and tables, sometimes have inlay design, usually geometric. Any ornamentation is minimal and is designed to draw attention to the craft of the work, rather than as an adornment.

Types

Mission style furniture can have a rustic appeal. The handcrafted aesthetic of the style lends itself to rural interiors, ranging from the farmhouse of rural America to the country house of the well to do.

The mission style is somewhat rigid in its characteristics: straight lines, hewn woods, metal hardware and little ornamentation. But the confines of the style does enjoy some diversification.

Copper accents in hardware and joinery give the style some color. Large decorative nail heads used in upholstery add texture. Cabinet doors may have inset panels or drawers finished with decorative knobs. The designers of mission furniture relied on detail to relieve the almost harsh geometry of the style.

Geography

Mission style furniture, and the Arts and Crafts architecture for which it was originally designed, was prominent in the Southwest and California from 1890 into the 1920s.

Spanish Mission architecture, which was prevalent throughout California, was styled after the missions built in the region in the previous centuries. The mission style furniture of the Arts and Crafts movement transitioned over to this architecture almost immediately.

At the turn of the twentieth century, the Southwestern states and California were infused with Spanish, English and Native American influences. The mission style furnishings answered these influences well. Constructed from wood and accented with copper and metal, the style blended well with the contemporary architecture.

Wood Working Projects For A Skill Saw Beginner

A circular saw is a power tool no woodworker can do without.

If there is one power tool that is essential for every woodworker, it's a circular saw. The Skil company invented it, and the Skil brand is so ubiquitous that the name has become synonymous with the tool. A Skil saw can be dangerous, and using one requires care. It's best to practice on a few simple projects before you begin to use it in earnest.

Simple Bench

You only need rudimentary ability with a Skil saw to make a bench from 2- by-4-inch lumber. Measure out four lengths 48 inches long for the seat; four lengths 24 inches long for the legs; four lengths 12 inches long to hold the legs together; and one length 36 inches long for a lengthwise brace. After you measure each length, draw a perpendicular line across the face of the board, lay it on a bench so the off-cut is hanging over the edge, and cut through the line with the Skil saw. Hold the blade guard back with your thumb while you push the saw through the wood. When you have cut all the pieces, assemble the bench with screws.

Shelving

Making a simple shelf is a good way to get used to ripping plywood with a Skil saw. Measure and draw a 12- by-36-inch rectangle on a sheet of 1/2-inch plywood, then set the plywood on a pair of sawhorses. Adjust the depth of the saw blade to a little more than the thickness of the plywood, then hold back the blade guard while you cut along the lines to cut out the shelf. Push the saw slowly, and keep the marker on the front of the saw base aligned with the line to make straight cuts. After you're done, hang the shelves with shelving brackets.

Pet Door

A pet door that will fit in the opening of a sliding door is a good project for practicing the technique of plunge-cutting. Cut out a rectangle that will fit in the sliding door opening, then set it on a sawhorse and draw the outline of the door. Place the back of the saw base on the surface, and align the blade with the line. Tilt the saw up, hold back the blade guard and turn it on. Lower it slowly until the blade cuts all the way through, then cut along the line. Save the cut-out and hinge it to the opening to make the pet door.

Simple Pyramid

Practice bevel-cutting by making a simple pyramid that you can use for decoration or as a speaker box. Draw out three equilateral triangles of the same size on 1/2-inch plywood, then set the angle of the Skil saw blade to 30 degrees and cut them out. Keep the edge of the blade nearest you just to the outside of the line. If you cut accurately, the seams will fit tightly when you join the triangles. Spread glue on the edges, then screw them together to form the pyramid.

Sofa Covers In Southwestern Decor

Light tan slipcovers work well in a Southwestern-style living room.

The rich colors of the sunset and landscape, along with cowboy-inspired images and Mexican themes, are the cornerstones of Southwestern decor. If you're changing the premise of a room that includes a couch, loveseat, or chair, Southwestern slipcovers will display the right colors, textures and styles to lend decorative-specific authenticity to the space. Does this Spark an idea?

Colors

Deep shades of blue, such as cobalt and royal blue, make a regal and sophisticated Southwestern-style slipcovers. Shades on the warm side of the color wheel--including rust orange, dusty pink, and cranberry red--showcase Southwestern style and add a burst of color to the room. For more noticeable and vivid color, a slipcover in a near-neon shade of orange or lemon yellow will help to complement the subdued colors in the room, such as beige and tan. If you want to keep the room neutral, earthy tones such as cocoa brown or charcoal gray are ideal choices for slipcovers.

Fabrics

Heavy fabrics such as tweed and quality cotton will make a Southwestern slipcover more authentic and visually appealing. Suede slipcovers, or covers in faux animal hide, are fitting for a room with a Southwestern theme. Slipcovers that feature more than one material are impressive as well. For instance, a tweed slipcover with leather strips that cover the arms of the chair helps to incorporate more than one fabric into the room, and easily gives life to an old chair that you don't want to get rid of.

Patterns

Native American or Mexican patterns that feature diamond shapes and stripes in a modest shade--such as black, gray or dark brown--are appropriate for a Southwestern sofa or chair slipcover. Stripes of varying widths in colors such as yellow, orange, red, deep blue and bright green make an attractive theme-specific slipcover as well. You can also find slipcovers with images of cacti, cowboy boots, or sombreros to make the loveseat, couch, or chair you're covering even more noticeable--the vivid patterns can make the furniture piece the feature of the room.

Additional Accents

Accents that will make your Southwestern slipcover stand out--including fringes in leather or suede, or a border made of mini Western stars--add more texture to the furniture. Choosing a slipcover with neutral-colored fringes in dark or medium brown or black will complement the other colors in the Southwestern-themed room, such as deep shades of red, rust orange and bright turquoise. You can also have the slipcover professionally designed to include your family name or initial--or a Southwestern symbol such as a cowboy hat or cactus--so the symbol shows in the center or along the bottom of the slipcover.

Types Of White Oak Trees

Oak trees can become massive after many years of steady growth.

Oak is a smooth-grain, strong wood that's perfect for furniture or building use. White oak is named after its light-color wood that accepts stains smoothly. Multiple oak varieties are included in the white oak family. Most varieties share strength and color characteristics, while others differ greatly in acorn size, leaf shape or growing conditions. Does this Spark an idea?

Post Oak

Post oak (Quercus stellata) belongs to the white oak family Quercus, and lumber cut from this tree is one of many varieties marketed as white oak. This variety of white oak can be identified by it's leaves, which have five lobes arranged in a cross shape. Acorns on this tree have caps that cover about one-third of the fruit, and the caps have slightly larger scales than the acorns of a true white oak. Mature post oaks will reach about 65 feet in height.

Bur Oak

Bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa), also known as mossycup oak, is named after its golf-ball-size acorns that are encapsulated by a cap covered in burs. This white oak variety often is planted in residential areas because it grows quickly and can reach up to 100 feet when mature. Wide spreading branches produce plenty of shade. Lobes on the leaves of this tree are deeply segmented and develop a wavy pattern toward the tip of each leaf. Because of their large size, much of the white oak lumber commercially available comes from bur oaks.

Chestnut Oak

Chestnut oaks (Quercus prinus) grows mostly in the eastern United States where the climate is humid, according to the U.S. National Forestry Service. Also known as the tanbark oak or rock oak, chestnut oaks grow well in loam or clay soils and on slopes such as those in the Appalachian Mountain range. Mature chestnut oaks reach a maximum height of 80 feet. Acorn crops often are smaller than other types of oak, but the fruit is sweeter. This form of white oak will produce a relatively upright trunk free of knot-forming lower branches, but it grows much slower than other types of oaks.

White Oak

Quercus alba is the original white oak tree. All heartwood from white oak varieties is prized for high decay resistance, strength and smooth grain that makes it optimal for furniture use. Quercus alba grows across North America and is distinguished by it's smooth-edge, six-lobe leaves. White oak trees reach a maximum height of 90 feet and are relatively slow growing, especially when compared with faster growing varieties such as the bur oak.

Make Camper Slipcovers

Making camper slip covers is a breeze for even beginning sewers. They are easy to slide on and off the cushions, and by choosing the correct fabric, they'll be machine washable and dryer safe. The inside of your camper will always look fresh and clean, and your friends will be begging you to teach them sew camper cushions. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. First measure cushions by length, width, and height.

Add 3/4" all around for seam allowance. Roughly sketch a picture of each cushion on a piece of computer paper. Take this to the fabric store with you.

2. Choose your fabric. You probably don't want to be taking these to the cleaners so pick out a machine washable, dryer safe fabric. Pay attention to potential shrinkage. If you decide on 100% cotton, buy a little extra fabric to allow for shrinkage and be sure to pre shrink before cutting the fabric.

3. Take your fabric to the cutting table and ask the clerk to help you estimate the yardage. You may be capable of doing this yourself, but it's always good to get a second opinion. Get an opinion on the best type of zipper. This will depend on your fabric and/or how long a zipper you need. Make sure you purchase all your notions.

4. * At home, lay out the fabric and measure using a yardstick if needed. Mark your cutout lines on wrong side of fabric using tailors chalk. You're probably going to mainly be sewing squares and rectangles. Before you begin sewing, take a look at the construction of the cushions for which you are making these slip covers. These will be a very helpful guideline.

5. To construct the zipper panel, cut the fabric in half. See illustration.

Past & Present Uses For Oak Wood

Oak has always been and still is a popular wood with a variety of uses.

The wood from various species of oak has always been and remains useful to build a variety of products. Some of these uses have remained unchanged with time but other, historic uses have mostly been discontinued. Whether burned in a fireplace or worked into ornate furniture, oak continues to be one of the most important types of wood. Does this Spark an idea?

Historic Uses

Historically, oak was used in specific applications where the hardness and strength of the wood was paramount. The keel and framework of tall sailing ships required oak wood. Wagon makers chose oak to form the wooden axles and frames of horse drawn carts and wagons and wheelwrights chose strong, hard oak to build the spokes for these conveyances.

Modern Uses

Many of the historic uses for oak are still present. Oak furniture, oak paneling, oak doors and oak millwork is as popular in modern homes as it was years ago, both for the inherent beauty of the wood as well as the durability of oak products. Oak flooring is particularly popular. Don't forget the oaken barrels used to age whiskey and wine both historically and in today's wineries and distilleries. Oak veneer is now a popular option to make furniture with the look of oak, but less expensive than solid oak.

Construction Lumber

Historically, many buildings were constructed from whatever types of wood was available locally. If it was oak, oak lumber was used; if it was poplar or pine, that's what they used. Oak lumber is still available, but much more expensive and harder to work than faster growing, soft woods shipped in from commercial forests. Nowadays, oak lumber is sometimes specified for applications where strength is an issue as well as when the oak will be exposed and finished to reveal its natural beauty.

Firewood

Oak is one of the best firewood available. Oak logs burn long and hot. Whether for home heating, fireplaces, outdoor cooking or wood-fired ovens, few kinds of firewood are more popular.

Use Textures In Design

Incorporating texture into a room will play a role into how someone feels when they enter it.

Whether you are designing a room, website or advertisement, adding texture will give your design depth and create visual interest. Texture can be found in many objects, from brick walls to chunky fabrics. Texture is a basic design element that stimulates the sense of touch. It creates a sense of three dimensions even in two-dimensional media. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Home Design

1. Choose textured fabric for sofas, curtains or throw pillows, such as corduroys, velvets or fabrics with an applique or raised prints. If you are decorating a big room, choose large, dark prints to fill the room and if your room is smaller, choose the opposite to keep the room feeling open and fresh.

2. Texture the walls. From the classic beadboard to a thick, stucco finish, use textured walls to create a certain feel for the room and add depth to the look.

3. Install a textured tile, thick carpet or wood floor. Flooring can be easily overlooked as a way to design a room with texture. Think slate tiles, thick Berber carpets or a rustic wood floor that brings out the natural wood grain.

Graphic Design

4. Choose a textured background. Look for backgrounds that incorporate distressing or three-dimensional elements. You can easily create your own background by taking a photograph of a brick wall, canvas, cardboard, sidewalk or tree bark.

5. Add a drop shadow to logos, text, photographs and other visual elements. Adding a light drop shadow to visual elements will make them appear three dimensional, adding depth and texture.

6. Add a three-dimensional Flash object. Adobe Flash is a program that allows you to install high-quality video or three-dimensional animated objects to a website. Incorporating an interactive media adds layers to your website and gives it a more textured feel.

Ideas For Decorating In Mission Style

Carmel Mission

Mission style has a variety of influences, the primary one being the Catholic missions of California. The first mission in San Diego, California was built in 1813. Catholic priests of the Spanish Franciscan order founded the mission. The Franciscans were a humble order, and their simplicity of spirit is reflected in Mission designs. While people of all religious and cultural backgrounds now enjoy Mission style, its beginnings are tied to the exploration and colonization of the American West. Does this Spark an idea?

The History and Elements of Mission Style

Mission style also reveals Mexican, Spanish and Moorish influences. While the mission churches were very similar to the churches of Europe, their interiors were spare and focused on functionality. This happened both as a result of the Franciscan influence and the limited resources at their disposal. The hallmarks of this style include bare stucco or plaster walls and dark carved-wood accents and furniture. As authors toward the end of the 1800s romanticized the rugged lifestyle of the West, the desire to emulate western styles arose. At the same time, England was celebrating its own salute to simplicity: The Arts and Crafts movement. The Arts and Crafts movement, or Craftsman movement, had two essential hallmarks: the influence of natural forms and the creation of works of the highest possible quality. What we now think of as "Mission Style" is a combination of these two complementary modes of design.

Bring Mission Style to Your Walls and Floors

The shell of a Mission Style design should be simple and neutral. Floors should be long planks of dark hardwood or similar laminate, or ceramic tile, plain, or with a few colorful accent tiles. Walls should be stucco or textured plaster and be painted off-white to palest yellow.

Mission Style Furnishings

Mission furniture is usually finished in oak or natural cherry stains, allowing the wood's grain to show through. The furniture also often features heavy, custom-made hinges and pulls. It is made with few other embellishments and features straight lines with gentle curves. Mission furniture was typically upholstered with heavy, saddle-quality leather in natural colors. The most famous maker of Mission furniture was Gustav Stickley. Stickley, the company he founded, is still manufacturing his original designs (see Resources).

Mission Style Accessories

The neutral walls and wooden accents of Mission style look great with colorful accents in rich colors. The pottery and lighting fixtures of the Arts and Crafts movement are perfect accents to Mission Style (see Resources for a source to buy period light fixtures). If you prefer more modern accents, concentrate on bringing warm colors and natural forms like those of leaves, flowers, vines and trees into your home. As stated above, the Moors--what the Spanish called North Africans--also influenced Mission style. With that in mind, you can bring in some of the colorful patterns found in traditional African and Moroccan design.

Spanish Style Backyard Ideas

Adobe brick is a common Spanish-style building material.

The Spanish architectural and décor style can refer to two different specific styles, Spanish revival and Spanish mission, as well as any combination and variations of them. Creating a Spanish-style backyard can make your outdoor space visually exciting, elegant and, in some instances, more functional. It can also be a creative way to honor your Spanish ancestry. Does this Spark an idea?

Hardscaping Materials

Hardscaping refers to the process of installing fixed, durable features in your yard, such as walls, patios and pathways. According to HGTV, if you want to create a Spanish revival-style backyard try using adobe bricks or natural stones for your hardscape features. You may even want to cover them with plaster or lime wash, which is also characteristic of the style. Another revival option, according to Creative Exteriors Landscape Design, is to utilize colorful porcelain tiles, especially on paths and walkways. For a backyard that highlights the Spanish mission style, use materials such as stucco and red or orange ceramic tiles for your hardscaping features. You may also want to incorporate quatrefoils, which are four-lobed ornamental designs, somewhere into your mission hardscape design.

Arbors

In addition to using arbors to train climbing plants such as Spanish grapes, you can use them to display Spanish-style architectural features. For a more revival atmosphere, try using wooden, rounded arch-style arbors. HGTV recommends adding an arbor on top of an existing, or new, low-level adobe wall, which will create a giant outdoor window in your backyard space. For a mission-style yard, try using arbors that have quatrefoils or parapets, which are ornate, wall-like features that go around the top edges of structures.

Spanish Mission Garden

Another idea for a Spanish-style backyard is to transform the entire space into a Spanish mission garden. According to Burke's Backyard, start by laying down terracotta paving, and then decorate the area with Spanish-themed plants. These include agapanthus, hippeastrums and pencil pines, with which you can line the walkways and entrances of your garden. In the center of your Spanish-mission garden, incorporate a focal point, such as a fountain, and surround it with pink mandevillas and succulents, which you can plant in decorative terracotta pots or urns.

Outdoor Revival Fireplace

If you do not mind mixing the older Spanish revival style with the newer Spanish mission style in your backyard, try incorporating an outdoor revival-style fireplace into your mission garden. Have the fireplace feature an expansive, unadorned curving surface, which will contrast nicely with the more ornate mission style elements.
