Use Oster Blades

Oster blades are easy to use on various clippers.

Oster blades are quite versatile and will fit on both the Oster and Andis brands of clippers. There are multiple uses for these blades whether it be for personal human use or on pets, farm animals and more. With proper care and maintenance, the Oster blades will give you several years of great service.

Instructions

1. Hold the clippers in your hand with the front facing you and use the flat-head screwdriver to lift the rectangle metal bracket on the top of the clipper. The bracket will be at an angle and this is where the blade will be placed.

2. Take the blade, teeth facing forward and down and slip the back groove of the blade over the angled bracket of the clipper.

3. Turn the clipper on and push down on the blade so that it is sitting in position on the clipper. Turn off your clippers until ready for use.

4. Spray your blade with clipper cool while in use to keep it cool to the touch while lubricating the blade and clippers, as well. You can do so while the clipper is still running, taking care to turn away from the subject you are working on at the time.

5. After each use, remove the blade from the clippers and clean out any residual hair with a utility or tiny tooth brush.

6. Turn over your blade and slide the back to the side without taking it completely off its rail. Use some clipper oil which comes in an applicator tube and apply oil to the rail on both the top and bottom. Slide the blade back into place and store for your next use.

Read Floor Plans

Floor plans are scale diagrams of a room or floor of a house or building as drawn by a house designer or architect. Floor plans will depict the location of walls, doors and windows, and all built-in elements like cabinets and fireplaces as you look down on them. You can view house floor plans on the Internet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Look at the perimeter of the floor plan. The perimeter consists of solid black lines to show exterior walls, or double lines to show interior walls, such as for a single room floor plan. Some plans may use two wide spaced parallel lines to show exterior walls and two narrow spaced parallel lines to show interior walls.

2. Locate the entry to the building or room. The entry will show as a break in the line of the wall and the floor plan may read "Entry" at that location. The entry may be a doorway (no door, just an opening) or have a swing, bi-fold, pocket or sliding door. A swing door is hinged to one side of the doorway. A bi-fold door is also hinged to one side of the doorway, but the door itself is also hinged, so it takes less room to open. A pocket and sliding door both glide on a track to open up. A pocket door glides between the walls (the pocket) so it can be hidden when open while a sliding door remains in view when open as it covers an identical looking stationary window.

3. To get the proper floor plan perspective imagine yourself stepping through that entry. Your view point is from above the room so you are looking down into the room.

4. Moving from the entry forward, you may now be in the dining room, living room, family room or great room. The floor plan will tell you by name which room you are in. Within any of these areas, a fireplace can be shown as a thick black shape against the wall, maybe even protruding outside to depict a chimney. The location of windows in the room will show as white rectangles within the black wall lines. Dotted lines smaller than the dimensions of the room but following the line of the wall may depict a unique ceiling design like a tray ceiling. Dotted line along only one wall may depict built-in shelving. Dotted lines within a doorway may depict a unique architectural design, like a beam or arched doorway.

5. Continue the tour into the kitchen. Long rectangular boxes represent kitchen cabinets (on the floor). Dotted lines over those floor cabinets indicate upper cabinets mounted to the wall. These upper cabinets may extend over a refrigerator. The refrigerator will be a square or rectangle, most likely extending out beyond the depth of the cabinets. A rectangle with four to six circles is either a stand-alone stove or a cook top built into the countertop; if the latter, then there will be indication of built-in ovens. The sink is frequently positioned in front of a window and is depicted by one empty rectangle (single basin sink) or two side-by-side squares (double basin sink). There may be a pantry area located in or just outside the kitchen.

6. Look for the bathrooms, which may be labeled as bath, master bath, or half bath or powder room (no shower or tub). A rectangle with an X in it represents a shower. The toilet is shown as a circle attached to a rectangle. Sinks will either be in a cabinet (in a rectangular shape) or displayed as a small rectangle with an oval or circle in it to indicate that it is a pedestal sink. A regular bath tub will be shown as a rounded corner rectangular inside a slightly larger rectangular. Garden or spa tubs will be larger rectangle and may have an oval shape inside them. A linen closet in or near the bathroom will be marked as linen or lc or lin.

7. Moving down a hallway, which is depicted by two solid parallel lines, you will find bedrooms. Bedrooms share common traits of other living spaces. All bedrooms have closets and they are typically labeled as "closet" or CL. Closet doors may not be depicted. Closets may show a horizontal box, which would indicate a shelf under which is the clothes pole for hanging clothes. Or the closets may show a series of dotted lines which could be depicting double clothes poles.

8. Follow the arrow direction to ascend or descend stairs, which are depicted by a series of narrow rectangular boxes side-by-side. Because only one floor can be depicted at a time, it may appear that the stairs go nowhere. Check for an additional floor plan for the floor to which the stairs lead.

9. Look for the room marked utility or util. That is where square shapes will show the location for the washer and dryer (labeled W and D).

10. Move to the exterior where you may see lines running parallel to the front and/or back of the house. The lines could be depicting a porch, deck or patio.

Play Resident Evil On Wii

Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil is a Wii port of the Gamecube remake of the original Resident Evil game developed by Capcom. It was released in the United States in June 2009. Players take on the role of either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine and progress through a seemingly abandoned mansion, solving puzzles and battling the undead denizens within.

Instructions

Play Resident Evil on Wii

1. Choose your character. Depending on your choice, the game will change both in terms of story and gameplay. Chris provides a more challenging game experience with tougher enemies and less item slots while also introducing players to Rebbecca Chambers, star of Resident Evil Zero. Choosing Jill gives players more item slots, slightly easier enemies, and the ability to pick locks.

2. Conserve your ammo. The original Resident Evil game is not built around running and gunning gameplay. Ammo is scarce and if you find yourself with an empty gun, you'll need to rely on your knife and secondary defense weapons. Avoid enemies whenever possible and during combat aim for the head.

3. Burn the bodies of killed zombies. Zombie bodies that are left after being killed will resurrect later in the game as Crimson Head Zombies. These enemies are fast moving and will slice through the players with their talons. Another way to dispose of zombies is to use the grenade launcher or shotgun to decapitate them.

4. Memorize the locations of save rooms. Inside these rooms are item boxes where additional items can be stored; your character does not have enough capacity for every needed item. Players should be able to find their way back to these rooms through multiple paths, especially when Chris or Jill are low on health.

5. Keep track of puzzles and key requirements. Write down the locations of rooms that require a certain set of items to unlock a door or obtain a needed tool. Much of the game is spent moving back and forth through the mansion, garden house and laboratory. Remembering the door that requires the spade key to unlock is vital to progressing.

6. Read every additional file you come across within the game. These can provide puzzle solutions, game tips and add to the intricate plot. Missing out on files will leave you with half of an understanding of the game.

The Best Products For Cleaning Furniture

Upholstry and wood make up a large portion of most people's furniture.

Furniture cleaning is a process that must be done year-round. Dirty furniture can ruin the appearance of any room. While there are thousands of options for cleaning every type of furniture, there are some specific types of products that work better at cleaning furniture than others. These products work well at cleaning wood, leather and fabric furniture. Does this Spark an idea?

Wood Soap

Wood soap is one of the best products to use on wood for effective cleaning. Wood soap will clean away dirt, dust, oil and spills from the surface of any wood. One problem with wood soap is that it can strip away shine from the finish of wood, so it will need to be followed with a polishing spray or something else to brighten the finish on the wood. Wood soap is mixed in with water and applied to the wood with a soft cloth. Do not use wood soap on bare, unfinished wood, as this can cause the wood to dry out and eventually crack.

Oil Cleansers

Oil cleansers are also an excellent product to use on wood. They work best on wood that has a natural finish (such as tung oil) or that are unfinished. If you use oil cleansers on finished wood, the oil will sit on top of the surface of the wood and will never soak into the wood. For finished wood, the oil cleanser can be used on the unfinished sides and bottom of the wood, but it will not effectively clean a finished surface. However, oil cleansers are still effective at removing dirt and other contaminants from wood or wood finishes. Oil cleansers are applied with a soft cloth and rubbed into the surface of the wood.

Wood Polish

A wood polish is a great way to make wood furniture shine. If the wood is very dirty, the polish is best used as a second coat. Wood polish is capable of adding shine to the wood and also adds a protective surface that helps repel dirt and even some minor scratches. With some polishes, build-up can be a problem, so it is important to wash the wood with another cleaning method periodically.

Leather Conditioner

Leather conditioner is the best way to clean leather furniture. This cleaning method will only work on genuine leather. If you have a synthetic leather furniture piece in your house, it should be cleaned with soap and water. Leather conditioner typically comes in oil form and is applied with a soft cloth. The conditioner eliminates dirt and oil from the furniture and also adds a barrier to the surface, making it more resistant to future contaminants.

Fabric Cleaner

Fabric cleaner is the best cleaner to use on upholstery. You might think that steam-cleaning your fabric furniture is a good idea, but the water and steam in the machine can actually damage the furniture and cause fabric to shrink. Fabric cleaners can be found at most home supply stores and are sprayed onto the cloth and wiped off with a clean cloth. Always use a non-acidic cleaner, as acids can cause the colors in the fabric to bleed or fade. For small areas, baby wipes can be rubbed over the fabric, effectively cleaning the surface.

Rate Leather Recliners

Leather recliners are comfortable chairs that can be used in any room of the house. There are many types of recliners available, and determining which one to buy can be a tough decision. If you have already bought a recliner, perhaps you want to provide a review or rating for others who have yet to buy a recliner, so they know what to expect from the product. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Identify the brand and specific item name for the leather recliner you would like to rate. Look through your original purchase materials to find this information.

2. Visit the website of a trusted online retail company that offers online buyer protection in addition to customer service.

3. On the website's homepage, you will find a search box, which is usually located near the top of the screen. Type in the brand and specific product name of your recliner. Your search will lead to a list of results. When you see your specific recliner, click on the product image.

4. On the page that comes up for your recliner, you will see an option to review and rate the product. Usually these options are labeled as "rate this product," "write a review" or something similar. Click on the link to rate the recliner or write a review.

5. When writing the review, consider mentioning features such as comfort, size, durability, appearance/style and whether it offers all of the amenities advertised. Be specific in order to help other buyers find the best possible purchase.

No Sew Valance Ideas

No Sew Valance Ideas

A quality valance can be expensive, depending on the fabric and the style window the valance is fitted for. Having a custom valance sewn to match your unique decor can add to the costs. Save your money and scour the bins at your local thrift store, yard sale, around your house or flea markets to find inexpensive window treatments that will not require any sewing at all. Does this Spark an idea?

Napkins and Bold Statements

Make use of those colored cloth napkins you no longer have a use for. Place decorative napkin rings across the tension rod and drape patterned napkins through the loops. This style would look appropriate in a kitchen or bathroom window. Make a bold statement with your homemade no-sew valance by mounting either a tree branch or a pole made of bamboo above the window. Drape a baby blanket over the rod. This look will add a unique, whimsical and personal touch to your window. Have fun with your design by using nails with large heads and hot glue buttons, seashells or tiny pine cones to the heads.

Table Runners

Hang a cafe curtain rod with rings attached above the window. Place a lace or satin table runner through the loops and pull the fabric tight on both ends, making sure that the ends are even. Grab the fabric between the loops and pull it down evenly creating an elegant drooping effect. Tie a silk or satin ribbon made of a contrasting color through the loops and into a bow. Be sure to keep the knot of the bow at the corners where the fabric begins to droop. This look will create a festive feel during the holidays.

Additonal Information

Other ready made linens that can be used as no-sew valances include neck scarves, pillow shams, decorative kitchen and bath towels. You do not have to be overly elaborate in your designs. Simply hanging a pillow case across the rod at an angle can give your window that little something special. Keep the fabric attached to the curtain rod with double sided tape or Velcro if you are not using loops or hooks.

Plan A Mexican American Wedding

Carrying out a Mexican American wedding is as much about blending two cultures as it is about making the wedding what the bride and groom envision their special day to be. Choose a few things from each culture and make this day special. Keep in mind cultural differences of the guests and enjoy.

Instructions

1. Plan the food. Offering rice and beans may be a common Mexican dish, but many Americans don't care for refried beans. Mix traditional American food with the Mexican food. Offer carne asada for making your own burritos with several topping choices so the guests can make a salad instead.

2. Hire a mariachi band. This is a typical Mexican staple at any wedding, so add it to stay true to Mexican roots. Have the mariachi band circulate during the introduction and eating time and then have a contemporary DJ for the dancing. Blend both cultures at the ceremony and reception to please both sides of the couple's heritage.

3. Decorate with Mexican colors in an "American" way. Choose white table cloths. Add red and green flower arrangements for the center of each table. Add colorful lighting in an outside setting along with decorative pinatas. Have room for people to move outside to enjoy the more festive Mexican atmosphere while keeping the inside area romantically subtle and elegant.

4. Buy a traditional cake and a Mexican cake for dessert time. The traditional cake is for looks and display. At the dessert time, have the wedding cake and the Mexican cake served side-by-side in two smaller portions. A tres leche cake, or a fruit cake soaked in rum, are common Mexican cakes. Buy the damp heavier cake from any Mexican bakery and serve it alongside the common yellow cake with fruit filling and butter cream ice cream, for example.

5. Blend American and Mexican traditions in the actual ceremony. Tie a white rosary around the couple's necks. Have the bride carry the family rosary to the alter. Both the American side and the Mexican side will respect a wedding held in a church. Carry out the wedding in a way that pleases the bride and groom above all else. Throw in some family traditions and mix and match the pieces of each culture that you like. It is your wedding.

Put Together A Sleigh Bed

Sleigh beds provide unique designs to a bedroom area. For kids to adults, they have a distinct look that stands out from all other beds. However, this particular piece of furniture can be difficult to put together. If you've recently acquired one, you need to pay careful attention to the procedure to avoid any dangerous results.

Instructions

1. Align the headboard and footboard with the side rails.

2. Attach the headboard and footboad to the side rails. If the bed model has an opening for wooden slots, simply slide the pieces and press down to lock them in place. Otherwise use nails and hammer the pieces together.

3. For every slat (support piece of wood at the bottom of the bed), drill two holes on each side of the slat and the corresponding side rail (which should have an inner bar for them to lay upon).

4. Insert the wooden screws to fit through the slat and the side rail. The bed should provide the appropriate screws (and possibly pre-drilled the holes).

5. Tighten screws with phillips-head screwdriver. Continue to twist screwdriver until it resists further rotations.

6. Place the mattress matching your headboard-to-sideboard dimensions over the slats.

7. Place the sheets and pillows upon the bed.

Steps Involved In Sand Casting

Sand casting is a process of creating concrete or clay sculptures, containers and other decorative objects using builder's sand as the mold. The basic steps involved in sand casting are the same; the only variations are in the type of mold that you create. Deep molds for casting planters and garden ornaments require a taller pile of sand than more shallow molds for birdbaths or bowls. Commercial molds are available for a variety of sand casting projects. You can also use common items, such as wastebaskets, coffee cans and large leaves to make sand molds for your designs.

Instructions

1. Set up a flat work surface large enough to contain the sand pile. Your work surface can be a sheet of plywood stretched between two wooden horses or a concrete driveway.

2. Pile builder's sand in the center of the work surface. The center of the sand pile should be at least three inches deeper than the height of your mold. If you are making a bird bath from a large leaf, pile the sand three inches deeper than the desired depth of the birdbath. Dampen the sand with water. Slightly wet sand holds a shape better than dry sand.

3. Make an impression in the center of the sand pile with the mold. Make sure that you leave at least three inches of sand beneath the mold. Build the sand up around the mold for support.

4. Remove the mold. Check the sand impression for cracks or spaces. If necessary, fill in the spaces with sand and smooth the cracks with your fingers. Re-insert the mold if necessary. The outside of your finished product will only look as good as the inside of your mold. Spend time making sure that the shape of the sand mold looks good.

5. Cover the sand mold with plastic wrap. Make sure to press the plastic wrap into the contours of the sand mold. Coat the plastic with a release agent. Commercial spray release agents are available, but non-stick cooking spray or spray oil works.

6. Prepare the concrete mix according to the package directions. You can also cast the sand mold with homemade clay or modelling clay. Pour the mixture into the sand mold. If you are casting deep molds, tamp the concrete down with a tamper as you go. Pay attention to the sand walls around the mold, pat them or wet them as needed to keep them firm.

7. Wait four days before removing the concrete from the sand. Wait an additional week before painting or attaching object onto the cast concrete.

Make Old Wood Look Its Best With Simple Tools

Old wood can be claned and waxed to improve its image.

Sunlight and changes in humidity take their toll on old wood. This can cause the finish to wear thin, crack and yellow. To make your old wood look new again, the surface of the old finish must be restored. This can be done with the simplest of tools. Many can be found in your household cleaning supplies. A thorough surface cleaning and a reapplication of fresh furniture wax is the best method for restoring the original glow of your old wood.

Instructions

1. Apply a coat of liquid sander to the old wood with a disposable paintbrush. Let it set for five minutes and wipe the surface with a clean rag. Allow the sander to set for two hours to allow the gloss of the old finish to break down. Wipe the surface again with a second clean rag to remove dirt and grime.

2. Soak quad zero steel wool in odorless mineral spirits. Put on heavy rubber gloves. Scrub the surface of the wood with the steel wool, working with the grain. Add more mineral spirits as required to remove the rest of the grime from the surface. Allow the mineral spirits to dry completely.

3. Wet a rag with boiled linseed oil, available in paint departments, and wipe it onto the surface of the wood liberally to restore the wood's natural moisture content. Wipe oil onto the entire surface of the wood. Allow it to dry for one hour. Apply a second coat using the same technique.

4. Allow the linseed oil to dry to the touch. Dampen a rag and rub furniture wax into it. Rub the surface of the wood with the waxed rag, spreading the wax evenly across the surface. Continue adding wax until the wood is covered. Allow the wax to dry to a haze, then buff with fresh rag.

5. Apply a second coat of wax using the same technique. Allow the wax to dry to a haze, then buff vigorously until the wax shines to a medium gloss finish. Clean the wood with mineral spirits when the wax dulls, and apply a new coat of wax, buffing it to a clear shine.

Tips On Refinishing Antique Wood Spindles

Whether working with chair spindles or antique end tables, you want to make your furniture look its best. At the same time, if quality furniture needs refinishing or restoration, you will want to make sure you do not decrease its value. You will need to begin by accurately assessing what needs to be done; your furniture may be covered with paint or may simply need a thorough cleaning. Does this Spark an idea?

Cleaning Antique Furniture

Over time, old furniture is affected by dust, wax, oils, sweat, dirt and grime. Not only does the furniture finish become dark and dingy and the grain become obscured, but the finish can become soft and sticky.

If this describes your furniture, try a thorough cleaning before doing anything drastic. Many times, a good cleaning is all that is needed.

Depending on the condition of the furniture, you might want to start by washing it down with a mild oil-based soap like Murphy Oil Soap, available at most hardware stores. You will want to use warm water, a little soap, a soft-scrubber (like you might use on coated cookware) and a soft cotton cloth to dry.

If the dirt and grime is too ingrained in the wood, you can try using mineral spirits with 0000 grade steel wool before cleaning with the soap and water. You will be amazed at the difference a little cleaning makes on many pieces of older furniture.

If cleaning your furniture brings it back to life, it is best to leave it as is and not to strip or actually refinish it.

Stripping And Refinishing

If your furniture is painted or if the finish is in particularly bad shape, you might need to refinish it.

You will want to start with a chemical furniture refinishing product. Many different types are available at your local paint store. Follow the directions carefully.

Since you are working with antiques, the goal is restoration--restoring your furniture back to its original look. This rules out polyurethanes for the final finish as they were not available when the antique furniture was new. This means you will probably want to use either a furniture grade lacquer or a tung oil finish.

If properly stripped and cleaned, and an original type of final finish is applied, your antique furniture can look like new again.

Purchase Office Cubicles

Office cubicles can be arranged in a thousand different ways, depending on the needs of your business.

To buy office furniture -- including cubicle walls -- in the most efficient way requires an understanding of how you want your office to function and, therefore, how you want to arrange it. If every employee needs a private space, that will lead to one type of configuration. But if you want a room in which your employees can interact freely, another configuration -- and another type of cubicle purchase -- might be in order. This is where office planners come in handy to help you plan the furniture in your office.

Instructions

1. Several types of workstations (cubicle) manufacturers and styles are available. Decide whether you want a higher end cubicle construction for an executive office or a less expensive construction for a smaller office.

2. Cubicles come in a variety of colors and materials, including different fabric choices, laminate colors, paint colors, wood or metal trims, glass, and different sizes. The most common size is 8-foot by 8-foot. They can be built in different configurations according to your office layout, but the basic ones are just a square cube.

If you are moving into a new office, try and get quotes from a furniture dealer in your area. You can locate them in the phone book or online. If you work with a dealer you are more likely to get the best price, color selection, and service for your needs, especially if you are looking to purchase a large amount. A dealer with help you with space planning, color selection, and installation.

Most dealers have design staff available to help you space plan and pick your color selections according to your office layout. They also provide trained technicians to install your cubicles as putting these together is different for every manufacturer and there are electrical codes and specifications that the installers are aware of from the drawings that the designers prepare for them.

3. Space planning is very important. The furniture representative will come out and measure your space and prepare a layout for your cubicles in your new office. Also, color selection can be crucial when matching paint colors/laminates and fabrics on the workstations to the color of your office walls and floors or carpeting.

Get quotes from a couple of different dealers in your area when searching for cubicles and find out what their warranty policy is. For instance if you receive a damaged panel or counter top, how long before they replace it? And are there additional or hidden charges for installation? Get your quote in writing and sign it once you have accepted their proposal. This way, if they forget to order any small pieces like end caps and trims, etc., they will have to provide them at their expense.

You may also want to get pricing on chairs from the dealer. This way you can match the desk chairs to the fabric on your cubicles and you may receive a discount on the chairs and receive free shipping for ordering all the items at one time in bulk.

Plan ahead and allow at least six to eight weeks for delivery and installation of your cubicles depending on the dealer. So if you are planning to move in a couple of months, don't wait until the last minute to purchase furniture for your new office.

Mission Style Window Treatment Ideas

Spanish churches inspired Mission Style.

Mission style, sometimes called Mission Revival Style, was inspired by old Spanish churches built in the Southwest and California in the late 1800s. The movement merged with the Arts and Crafts style of the early 1900s.

Born out of humble beginnings of the Spanish missionaries, mission style is simple, warm and inviting. Windows in Mission Style architecture feature beautiful wood trim and sometimes stained glass. Because Mission Style windows are decorative and artsy, when selecting window treatments, it is important to choose options that compliment the window without concealing it. Does this Spark an idea?

Wood Blinds

Wood blinds work perfectly with Mission Style windows. Feel free to go with a different color wood than the trim. Honey oak, deep cherry or natural maple can be mixed with mahogany. Choose larger slats to maintain the arts-and-crafts look. If possible, mount the hardware for the blinds inside the window.

Shutters

Shutters offer some of the same benefits for Mission Style windows as blinds. However, because shutters use hinges, they can be opened to fully expose the Mission Style window and create the illusion of a larger window. Installing shutters only on the lower half of the window creates depth and character.

Café Curtains

Café curtains only cover the bottom half of a window. This options is perfect for windows in the kitchen or in areas of the home where privacy and sunlight are not a problem. Mount the hardware outside of the window trim and choose wooden rods for added warmth. Avoid ruffles or frilly trim on the fabric, as this may clash with the clean lines associated with Mission Style.

Woven Texture Shades

Rattan, bamboo or grass cloth are a few of the woven-texture shades that look great with Mission Style windows. Using woven texture shades can create interest. These shades provide protection from sunlight without blocking the light all together. As with blinds, it is best to mount these inside the window.

Nothing

That's right, nothing. If your Mission Style windows have stained glass or elaborate mill work, forgoing treatments is a beautiful option. This works best with a wall of windows in the back of the home, with a view of a wooded area or scenic back yard. Too much unfiltered sunlight can damage upholstery and rugs.

Prune Jacaranda Trees

Jacaranda trees are native to the Amazon basin in South America. These tropical trees grow best in frost-free climates and are only hardy in the United States Department of Agriculture zones 9 to 11. They need full sun and well-drained sandy soil to thrive. They also grow best in areas with abundant rainfall, such as Florida. The jacaranda does not need to be pruned very often. In fact, pruning the tree can ruin its natural umbrella-like shape. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove all the dead branches on the jacaranda tree. Cut the branches off at the branch collar, the area where the branch meets the trunk and bulges out slightly.

2. Prune all of the diseased branches from the tree at the branch collar. Use the shears if the branch is smaller than 2 inches in diameter or the loppers if the branch is larger than 2 inches in diameter.

3. Remove any broken branches from the tree at the branch collar. Cut the branches off with the shears or the loppers.

Places To Buy Cheap Patio Furniture

Catching great prices on patio furniture requires a quick eye and some focused searching. Furniture sales are, of course, always a welcome sight when looking to buy cheap patio furniture. Knowing when and where to look could mean the difference between enjoying a new patio lounge chair or making do with an old, worn-out one for another season.

Rummage and Yard Sales

You may have to get up early to catch the right item, but yard and rummage sales often have great deals on patio furniture. Look for ads that specifically list patio furniture. Sales noted as "household moving sale" may also offer some patio treasures. Moving sales often mean someone is downsizing -- and that can mean they're trying to unload their patio furniture, among other items. Larger, multihousehold sales or charity rummage sales usually have furniture for sale, too. Spend time perusing the weekend classifieds to identify the best sales. Know what you need and what level of wear you're willing to accept before heading to a sale.

End-of-Season Sales

Late summer and early fall can produce great patio furniture bargains at local retailers. In the retail world, this is the time of year to move holiday items onto the sales floor and focus on the inside of the home. Retailers need to unload what did not sell earlier in the year to make room for new items. Watch ads for sale notices or ask retailers when their end-of-season sales are scheduled. Sign up for email sale notices with patio furniture retailers.

Overstock Items

At the beginning of a season, furniture retailers, especially large home supply stores, may overstock an item or two. Sometimes this is on purpose, sometimes it happen by accident, but either way, the store will want to move the excess product out of its inventory. This is usually accomplished through a price reduction. Reduced prices are not always advertised, so capitalizing on overstock sales requires regular phone calls or visits to stores that sell patio furniture. Online retailers may offer patio furniture as an overstocked item, too.

Make A Sales Plan

A sales plan is created and monitored to increase sales in a company.

A sales plan is created by businesses primarily to make money. Without a proper plan, with objectives and goals, it is hard for businesses to achieve all they are capable of. A sales plan is an outline that contains information about a business, its' customers and the strategy the business is taking to attract new clients, improve performance and increase profitability. This plan is created by a business owner, management and a group of employees.

Instructions

1. Identify your target markets. During the initial step of creating a sales plan, the company's target markets must clearly be identified. A target market is a group of people your company targets through the products and services it sells. The target market is the group of people your company focuses on selling to.

2. Investigate the industry your company is in. A company investigates the industry by comparing how the company's current trends compare to the industry's trends as a whole. This is also accomplished by looking at similar products in the marketplace and comparing how your products compare to those.

3. Develop the strategies for increasing sales. Companies are constantly trying to reach and increase sales quotas. By developing strategies, a company is more likely to accomplish this. Some strategies implemented are hiring a sales force or independent sales representatives to sell your products or increasing awareness in the community about your company. The strategies created are basically objectives with outlines of how they will be implemented.

4. Explain the objectives and strategies developed to all employees. The entire staff of the company must know and understand the objectives and strategies that are planned. Staff that is unaware of these things has no direction and therefore it is hard for them to know what their complete duties are. Communication is a vital tool needed for an effective sales plan.

5. Measure the effectiveness of the sales plan. A plan must be able to be measured in order to monitor it and evaluate it. This is accomplished by assessing each objective and looking at the results and comparing them to the planned outcome. If an objective was to increase new customers by 10 percent for the year, after each month, the new customers are counted to see where the number stands compared to the goal.

Ice Breaker Games For Baby Showers

Baby shower games can be a good way to introduce party-goers.

Almost everyone has experienced those awkward moments at a party where guests don't know each other. Baby showers are a way to get to meet new friends, have fun and celebrate the upcoming birth of a new bundle of joy, but some of the guests may be strangers, or diverse friends are coming together from different sides of baby’s family. Ice breaker games can help acquaint, relax and entertain guests at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?

Baby, Don't Say It.

Pass out a diaper pin or old-fashioned clothespin to each guest as she comes in. Tell her that she is not to say the word "baby" during the party, which will be difficult since it’s a baby shower. When a guest says the word, the first person who calls her out gets to take the pin. The person with the most pins at the end of the shower gets a prize.

What's in Your Purse?

This game is like a scavenger hunt for purses and allows guests to learn about one another by the contents of the ladies' purses. The hostess reads a list of items that guests try to find in their purses. Point values are assigned for items; one point for a compact, five points for a pair of tweezers or pack of gum, or 10 points for a black and white photo. The more unique an item is, the higher the point value. If men are also included at the shower, the same game can be played with the contents of their wallet with paper items such as old movie tickets, their own baby photos, and so on. The guest with the most points at the end of the game wins a prize.

Double Duty Diaper Tag Team

Pair up two strangers into teams. Each team must diaper a toy doll. To add a twist, guests can only use one of their hands, and the other hand must be held behind their back. The other hand can not touch the diaper in any way, and guests must work in sync with their partner’s hand to get it done. To make it more difficult, forgo the easier to attach plastic diaper and use a cloth diaper with a traditional diaper pin. The team who diapers the doll quickest wins a prize.

Who's Your Mama?

Prepare for this baby shower ice breaker by researching quotes about babies or mothers. For instance, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." Jot down the quotes on individual index cards. On another card, write down the name of the person who said it. When guests arrive, pin a quote or a person’s name on each shirt or sweater. As the guests mingle, it’s up to them to try to match up with the person to whom the quote is attributed. This is a good way for people who are strangers to feel connected. During the party, answers can be revealed to see how everyone did.

Requirements For Group Homes

Group homes provide a comfortable atmosphere for mentally or physically disabled people.

A group home is a community based residence that provides housing and services to people with special needs such as those with developmental disabilities, severe and persistent mental illnesses, or physical limitations. Group homes usually accommodate only a few residents and strive to provide a home-like setting.

History

Group homes developed as a result of the trend toward deinstitutionalization of people with physical and mental disabilities. They are generally regulated by the state as opposed to the federal government, so requirements differ based on location.

Licensing

Group homes are required to be licensed and registered with the state and sometimes with the municipality as well.

Background Checks/Education

Most states have laws requiring group home employees, who work with populations that are especially vulnerable to abuse and exploitation, to submit to rigorous background checks. Some states also mandate that group home employees are trained in fields like education, social work or psychology.

Mandated Reporting

All states require group homes to report to their regulating body any incident of abuse, neglect or exploitation; falling (with or without injury); medication error and resident death.

Other Requirements

States often have regulations about the type of clientele the homes may admit, the keeping of a comprehensive policy and procedure manual, the keeping of resident records, safety issues, sanitation and resident rights and responsibilities.

The Best Reclining Leather Chairs

An example of a La-Z-Boy reclining rocker chair

A good reclining leather chair provides years of reading, television-watching, slumber and general relaxation. For some readers, the best reclining chair will have a fixed angle of recline and admired architectural qualities, such as found in the Eames Lounge Chair. For others, the best chair will be a fully adjustable chair without design pretensions, such as the many different La-Z-Boy chairs. For others still, the chair must have an electric lift capacity. Favorably reviewed versions of each of these chairs appears below. Does this Spark an idea?

La-Z Boy Recliner Chair

La-Z Boy recliner chairs come in a variety of finishes, fabrics and special features. You can buy the fully padded La-Z Boy Leather Rocker Recliner in many colors, including beige, navy, burgundy and black, in either of two profiles: "high leg" or "low profile." You can see many different styles in both profiles by downloading a brochure from the company website. The History Of Mission Style Furniture

Mission style furniture was popular in North America and Great Britain beginning in about 1890 until about 1914. The style was a product of the Arts and Crafts movement, and the designs were simple and rustic. There are many companies still producing mission style furniture, but the most famous is the Gustav Stickley Co. Because the style is so simple, it fits in many modern decors, as well as the more traditional home. Does this Spark an idea?

History

The Arts and Crafts movement was a response to the industrial revolution. Proponents of the movement, which included William Morris, John Ruskin, Gustav Stickley and Frank Lloyd Wright among many others, believed that the craftsman was being lost to the soulless mass production of furniture and household items. The movement produced many great architects, artists and craftsmen.

Significance

Mission style furniture represented a complete departure from the over-embellished furnishings of the Victorian period. It signified a shift in the attitudes of the American people and placed more of an emphasis on the values and simplicity for which America became known.

Features

Mission style furniture is easily recognized by its simple, rustic style. Furniture often has a hand-hewn quailty, with square supports and a heavy appearance. Natural materials are common, such as leather and wool for seat cushions. Chests of drawers and cupboards had brass hinges in very simple designs, and if there were any decorative motifs they were taken from nature--flowers, vegetables, fruits, animals and bugs were common. Furniture was unpainted, and was usually oak or birch.

Geography

The Arts and Crafts movement, which included mission style furniture, was popular in Great Britain, Canada and the United States. The style did have some European influence, but was really limited to these three locations.

Size

Mission style furniture is usually quite large and heavy, utilizing oversize chairs and tables, echoing the rustic farmhouse styles of the past. It was a reaction to the prissy, overly refined and precious styles of the Victorian era. Despite its size, it was meant to be affordable.

Availability

Although the movement was based on the concept of craftsman created furniture, eventually it was mass produced and widely available. There are many fine, authentic pieces available to decorate the modern home; however, these pieces can often be somewhat pricey, depending on their age. The Stickly Co. is still producing furniture today, and in many cases they have created more modern versions of their original beautiful work.

Protect Oranges From A Freeze

Orange trees need protection from a freeze.

When cold weather occurs, orchardists or homeowners must protect their fruits and fruit trees from damage caused by the frost that accompanies a freeze. A freeze is more severe than a frost and may last for several days. Certain varieties of oranges, especially the navel and sour varieties, have a better chance of surviving such conditions. Although you can take steps to protect citrus trees from frost, the attempts to protect oranges and their trees from a freeze are generally not as successful. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cover the tree with a blanket or quilt if the tree is small. The use of quilts, blankets or burlap sacks assists with the conservation of heat that accumulates throughout the day, but this works best on trees that are smaller.

2. Place a shop light that has incandescent light bulbs around the canopy of the tree. If you do not have a shop light, use a string of Christmas lights around the canopy of smaller or medium-sized orange trees. This works as a heat source and is most effective on trees that have been covered. Use caution using either heat source, and do not allow the lights to touch water.

3. Sprinkle the canopy of the orange tree with water by using a hose that provides continuous sprinkling if the first two steps do not work. Make sure to remove the lights before sprinkling the canopy and ensure that the ground around the tree is bare and damp so it radiates less heat at night. When the water freezes around the branches and leaves, it creates enough heat to keep the temperature of the tissue at 32 degrees; this is because the movement, or friction, from the continuous flow of water liberates enough heat to maintain the temperature of the tree's tissue at 32 degrees. The water should flow continuously until the outside temperature reaches 37 degrees. Although the limbs may experience breakage from the weight of the ice, everything that is sprinkled with the water does not experience damage from the freeze.

Texture Ideas Using Joint Compound

Joint compound is a wonderful texturing and design tool, especially when you are on a budget. Yes, home improvement centers sell all kinds of expensive products for you to use in texturing surfaces. However, joint compound allows you to create the same textures and personalize them at the same time for a fraction of the cost. Joint compound texturing is a messy process, so cover the floors with painter's plastic before you begin. Does this Spark an idea?

Over Paneling

Keep in mind that one large tub of joint compound will cover about two walls, depending on the size of the walls. Open the tub and mix the joint compound thoroughly. Clean the paneling and dry it so that the joint compound will adhere to it easily. Then dip your hands in the joint compound and apply it to the walls. You want to make about a quarter-inch layer of joint compound on the walls to begin with. Then use your fingers to make patterns in the joint compound. A simple swirl with the palm of your hand all across the wall creates a beautiful texture. The joint compound takes a while to dry so play with your texture pattern until you are satisfied with it. Once it is completely dry paint over the joint compound. Painting is necessary so that the compound does not chip.

With Paint

If you want old world texture on your walls create it with joint compound. Pour some acrylic paint in a roller pan, then add about a cup of joint compound in the pan. Mix the paint and compound with your roller. The mixture should have a variety of hues of the paint in it when you are done, not be one solid color. Then use the roller to apply the compound-paint mixture to the walls. This technique will give your walls a bumpy and aged look when it is dry. Make note of how much paint and compound you mix together in your first mix so that you can make the same mixture each time you need to reload the rolling pan.

Picture Walls

Many homeowners use one wall to display photos of their family members over the course of time. Hall walls are very popular for this. Make the wall have its own character by texturing it with joint compound first, spreading the compound over the entire wall and then allowing the members of your family to make their own designs or handprints in the compound before it dries. Once it dries paint the wall, let the paint dry, then hang your pictures for a truly unique memory place that your family has made together.

Ceilings

The joint compound will most likely get in your hair, so a plastic head cap and some goggles are called for with this project. Spread the joint compound on the ceiling with your hands, covering the entire surface about one-quarter-inch thick. Then either texture the ceiling with a sea sponge across the entire surface, or make your own intricate designs. For example, you can create the look of expensive ceiling panels by measuring out squares on the ceiling, then defining them with the edge of a putty knife. Inside the squares draw textured patterns of flowers, wreaths or leaves. Make sure that you paint the entire ceiling with at least two coats of acrylic paint once the compound dries to prevent it from chipping.

Protect A Citrus Tree From Freezing

Citrus trees are popular in home gardens throughout California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. They don't grow reliably outdoors north of USDA plant hardiness zone 9B because they are cold tender. Limes, lemons and citron are the least cold hardy, while kumquats and deciduous non-edible oranges are the most cold hardy. Mature trees are better able to withstand freezes than young trees and those planted on a sloped, protected area sustain less damage than trees planted in low areas where cold temperatures gather. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Preventative Measures

1. Plant cold hardy varieties, such as sour oranges (Meyer lemons), tangerines, grapefruit, sweet oranges, kumquats or 'Satsuma' mandarin if you live in an area prone to infrequent winter freezes between 20 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Lemon and lime trees suffer damage when temperatures drop below 29 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Purchase trees grafted onto cold hardy root stock, if possible. The University of Arizona Extension recommends Trifoliate Orange, Flying Dragon, Cleopatra and Sour Orange as cold hardy root stocks.

3. Harden trees off in the fall by applying fertilizer with ample amounts of potassium (K) and phosphorus (P), with reduced nitrogen (N). Avoid pruning in the fall because pruning promotes new growth that's easily damaged by winter frosts.

4. Plant citrus trees in sunny, but protected locations near the south or southwestern side of a building. Citrus trees grown in urban areas where asphalt and cement warm the landscape are less prone to frost damage than those grown in rural areas.

Frost Protection

5. Wrap small citrus trees in burlap or blankets at night to conserve heat gained during the day. Wrap the trunks in cardboard or plastic wrap.

6. Place a shop light or a string of bulb-style Christmas lights in the tree with a covering to produce additional heat. Ensure that the light doesn't sit in water to avoid electrocution.

7. Water the ground to keep the soil evenly moist. Moist soils conserve heat better than dry soils, according to the University of Arizona Extension.

8. Run a sprinkler on the tree when temperatures dip, covering as much of the tree's canopy as possible. The water generates heat as it freezes and melts, allowing the tree's tissues to remain at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Run the sprinkler continuously until temperatures rise above 37 degrees Fahrenheit.

9. Mound soil around the base of the tree to cover the graft union, identified by a lump or change in the color or texture of the bark. If the tree is killed by a freeze, it may regenerate from the trunk if the graft union is protected.

Master'S Degrees In Art History

Art history students study more than the history of art.

Art history classes teach evaluate and interpret works of art and architecture and how they fit in to historical and artistic time periods. As an art history student, you will study not only art, artistic trends and artists, but also how that art relates to, reflects and affects human history. There are many different considerations for students deciding whether or not to pursue a master's degree in art history.

Educational Prerequisites

In order to be admitted into an art history master's program, you will need to have a bachelor's degree. You will have to submit official transcripts, and you will likely be required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Each individual school will set its own admission policies, and some may require that you have a background in art history, as well as grade-point average requirements. For example, the University of Colorado requires a grade-point average of at least 3.0, a score of 500 or higher on the verbal portion of the GRE and a background in history and literature, as well as an "extensive background in art history." Additionally, some schools, such as UCLA, will only admit students who plan on obtaining a Ph.D. Some programs may have less stringent requirements, and students will want to select a program based on their qualifications and needs.

Program Requirements

Most master's programs in art history require one or two years to complete, with around 30 to 40 credit hours needed. Each school sets its own class requirements, but it is likely that the school will determine which classes you will have to take based on the specialty you choose. At most schools, including Yale and UCLA, you will be required to take a few general art history courses, and then choose a field of study. A field of study can include: Greek and Roman art, Latin American Art, European Art, medieval and Byzantine art, Renaissance and Baroque art, or modern and contemporary art. The remainder of your credit hours will usually be taken in your field of study. Some schools will also require you to take foreign language courses. Also, most schools require you to write a thesis at the end of your graduate classes, but there are some schools that have non-thesis tracks which allow you to take a comprehensive exam instead.

Types of Classes and Typical Assignments

Most master's programs have traditional seminar classes. Classes often use photographic slides, as well as trips to local art museums to accompany classroom work. In addition to taking classes in specific types of art in your field of study, you will also take classes in art history theory and research methods. Typical art history assignments will ask you to make an argument, and then use art to defend that argument. You may be required to look at individual design elements, such as color, rhythm or composition and how the artist uses those artistic elements. You may also have to determine how an object fits into a certain style, or compare two works from different styles. Other assignments will ask you to discuss how a particular artistic element fits into history, and what those elements mean. You may also be asked to critique a piece of artwork based on a specific set of criteria.

Art History Career Options

Several different career options exist for people who hold master's degrees in art history. Many students who obtain a master's degree in art history go on to obtain a Ph.D. as well. A Ph.D. will prepare you for higher level curator work in museums, but there are many career opportunities available for students holding master's degrees. In addition to working in museums and galleries, you can teach, work in art and slide libraries, or become a writer.

Window Treatment For Dark Rooms

Window Treatment for Dark Rooms

When light is lacking in a room because of the size or location of the windows, the choice of window treatment is critical to avoid choking off what little light creeps in and smothering the room in utter gloom. Window treatments for dark rooms may be necessary to control privacy, but they should always be as minimal as possible. There are several ways to dress windows fashionably without creating a cave. Does this Spark an idea?

Just Say No

If a room is located on a side of the house where visual intrusions into your privacy are limited (such as facing the windowless wall of another house next door), or when the room is located on a second floor or features clerestory windows, eliminate fabric window treatments altogether. Just let the light come in. If privacy is an issue, frost the lower part of the window and leave the upper part unfrosted. You might also apply frosted stripes in a horizontal pattern: space these frosting stripes more generously above shoulder height on the window to provide privacy in rooms where people may be dressing. Decorate the otherwise "naked" window with a very simple swag of fabric or other material across the top of the window frame.

Café Curtains

Preserve privacy and still let light into the room by installing light café curtains over the lower half of the window and leaving the top half of the window untreated. This approach can work on large windows that are set lower on the wall, almost to the floor, as well as normal window heights. This approach is only possible, however, if there are no neighbors with second or third story windows above the height of your windows.

Beaded Shades

Use curtains of beads to block views but allow more light into the room. Colored glass beads can make a sophisticated design statement as can wooden beads. Keep the size of the bead work small and "tight" for maximum privacy.

Sheers

Sheer curtains have been used for years to control privacy and yet permit light to come into the room. Choose white sheers so the available natural light will be diffused and spread by the whiteness of the fabric. Every layer of sheers added will reduce the light notably, so try to use only one layer of sheer drapes.

Shutters

If you need to darken the room completely on occasion, such as for sleeping or for a home theatre, install solid window shutters. Leave the shutters open except when blackout conditions are desired. This shuttered look can be exciting in a vintage Victorian room or a room with a Country or Nautical theme.

In-Glass Technologies

For a "naked" window look, without the nakedness, install windows that have mini-blinds built in between the glass panes. Open and close the blinds with a mechanical or electronic device. These very narrow blinds can be almost invisible when opened and yet fairly opaque when closed. Windows are now available that have a special gas inside the window panes. When activated, the gas becomes polarized and blacks out the window; when inactive, the polarizing effect is reversed, and the window is clear.

Write A Concept Statement

A concept statement is a formal document setting forth an idea in words and/or graphics to be presented to decision makers prior to actually implementing the idea. The "decision makers" could be a potential client, upper management in your own organization, or a board or other organizational body. A concept statement can be used for an advertising campaign, a proposal for a project or a solution for a problem.

Instructions

Gather the Information

1. Decide on the specifics of the program or project you want to propose.

2. Write down notes about every aspect of the program or project that you can think of.

3. Anticipate any objections the decision makers (your client, company's upper management or organization's board) may have to your proposal and jot down your planned replies to each objection.

4. List all the benefits of implementing the project or program that you can think of. In other words, identify how the potential client, the company overall or the particular group of employees or department, or the community or constituency the board represents will benefit from the project or program.

5. Identify who will need to perform each task to complete the project or program if the concept statement is approved. Will the tasks be completed by specific departments or members of the company, outsourced to other companies or referred to company subcommittees for completion.

6. Consider logical questions the decision makers may ask and write down answers to those questions.

7. Brainstorm any problems that could arise during or as a result of this program or project, if it is approved and implemented. Sit down and make a list of every possibility you can think of. Use a mind map format in which you generate ideas randomly trying to imagine all the "what if's."

8. Determine how probable it is that this project or program will succeed and write down your prediction along with the reasons why.

9. Organize your notes into sections or categories for easier preparation of a formal written concept statement.

Prepare a Concept Statement Document

10. Open a new document in your word processing program and create a title page with the name of the proposed project, the words "Project Concept Statement" beneath the project name, a project logo (if applicable), and the date. Center the text on the page in a large font.

11. Start a new page and create headings for all of the different categories you can think of to clearly articulate your program or project. Suggested headings include: Description of the Proposed Project, Background, Business Problem, Goal, Overview, Benefits, Limitations or Constraints, Known Risks, Variables, Justification/Consequences of Not Implementing Project, Resources Required, Project Management/Responsibility, and Probability of Success. You may wish to bold or underline the headings so they stand out.

12. Write the information contained in your notes in logical sentences and paragraphs under each heading, where appropriate. Use bullet points for lists of items for easier reading and clarity. Use numbered lists for some items, such as the benefits and variables. Be concise but thorough, and don't leave any area blank.

13. Consider the objections and questions you identified that the decision makers might have and be sure you have proactively responded to each of them within the appropriate sections of the document---without identifying them as such (i.e., don't call them Possible Objections).

14. Include footnotes and appendices to show the decision makers where you acquired any facts, numbers, estimates or predictions used, or to include diagrams, drawings or other visual materials to help describe or present the project concept.

Evaluate the Final Document

15. Print a copy of your document's final draft and read it as though you are one of the decision makers. Make mental (or physical) notes of any thoughts or ideas that pop into your head while reading.

16. Revise the document as needed to address any thoughts or issues that arose while reviewing the document.

17.Print another copy.

18. Proofread the final document, looking for typos and errors. Have another person proofread your document, as it is easy to read over typographical errors.

19. Print the necessary number of copies of the project concept statement in anticipation of your meeting with the decision makers.

Polish Wood To A Glossy Finish

Using wood wax will keep your wood looking healthy.

Cleaning and dusting wood furniture keeps it looking clean, but that does not protect the wood or give it a that deep shine. The solution is polishing with wax. This safeguards the surface of the wood and brings the grain to life. It takes a little time to polish properly; however, you do not have to do this every week. Once-a-month waxing maintains your wood furniture's beautiful appearance. If you notice a waxy build up use either fine steel wool or alcohol, to gently rub off the excess. Then, continue with a fresh polish. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place a small amount of liquid wood wax on the cotton rag. Use just enough to cover the surface of the furniture. Move the rag in a circular motion over the surface of the wood, against the grain.

2. Leave the wax on the surface of the wood for a minimum of ten minutes and a maximum of an hour. This gives the wax time to permeate the wood. Check the directions on the product for recommended timing. Do not rush. You can do other tasks while the wood soaks up the wax.

3. Apply a second coat by following Steps 1 and 2, again. Cover all areas sparingly and evenly. Let this coat remain in place for an hour. Buff the surface with a soft buffing cloth, until you are happy with the results. Leave the wood alone, overnight, then do a final buffing in the morning.

Repair Eyeglasses With A Broken Bridge

Repair the broken bridge on your eyeglasses.

The bridge of your eyeglasses provides nearly 90 percent of the weight of your eyeglasses. So when the bridge breaks, your eyeglasses will be useless. The bridge is vulnerable to breakage, and permanent repairs are difficult to make on your own. A professional should make permanent repairs to eyeglasses; otherwise your vision can be impaired. You can make temporary repairs however, until you can take your glasses to an optician or replace them with a new pair of eyeglasses. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Wrap the bridge of your eyeglasses in adhesive tape or a hypo-allergenic tape that won't irritate sensitive skin. Cut a one-inch section of tape with scissors. Hold the bridge together with one hand while your wrap the tape carefully with the other around the broken bridge. Overlap the tape tightly as you wrap it.

2. Glue the bridge of your eyeglasses together with a hot glue gun and glue stick so that the break won't be so visible. Put a glue stick in the glue gun and plug it in. Set the glasses on a heat-proof surface, like a piece of aluminum foil. Wait until the glue stick has begun to melt in the glue gun. You can tell by pressing the trigger; you should see some glue coming from the nozzle. Hold the bridge together with one hand while pressing the trigger on the glue gun and applying hot glue to the broken ends of the bridge. Hold the bridge in place with both hands, and press together for one minute or until the glue dries.

3. Glue the bridge of your eyeglasses together with Superglue, Gorilla Glue or other semi-permanent glue that works on plastic. Hold the glasses together with one hand over a piece of aluminum foil while squeezing glue on the broken bridge. Hold the bridge together with both hands for about one minute until the glue dries.

Proper Hand Placement On A Bow

Improve your shot by using the proper hand placement.

If you've been practicing your archery stance, draw, aim and release but the arrows still aren't hitting the bullseye, it's time to take another look at your grip. Learning the correct bow hand position can help you make consistently accurate shots and even prevent injury to your shoulder caused by holding the bow incorrectly.

Balanced Hand Positioning

Many archers believe that the best hand position involves properly balancing the bow in your gripping hand. Place your hand in the grip so that it is two fingers' distance below the riser. You may need to move the bow up or down slightly until you can feel it balance vertically within your hand. This means that you should be able to move your hand loosely around in the grip without the bow falling forward or backward.

Hand Set in Grip

When holding the bow, you want all of the force from the bow to go straight into your bow-holding arm. This means that you want all of the pressure from holding the bow to be on the thick, muscular part of your thumb. Hold the bow between your thumb and your hand; do not wrap your fingers around the bow grip. If necessary, use a bow sling or finger sling to catch the bow after the arrow is released.

Relaxed Grip

In order to maintain the perfect hand placement, archers must try to maintain a relaxed grip throughout the shot and kick the habit of handle-grabbing. Handle-grabbing is an involuntary wrist and hand movement that thwarts the accuracy of even the most skilled archers. While the archer is supposed to keep their hand relaxed throughout the entire shot, many archers snap their hand closed around the handle right when the arrow is released. The sudden impact turns the bow slightly, throwing your arrow off of its course.

Consistent Hand Placement

No archer can be successful at the sport without learning the art of consistency. Practice placing your hand in the same part of the bow every time before shooting. Take the time to make sure that your grip tension and finger placement is the same before loading the arrow each time you shoot. Small variations in your hand placement and grip can lead to major inaccuracies in your shot.

Make Cheap Crown Molding Look Expensive

Crown Molding is the Finishing Touch to Any Room

Crown molding is the finishing touch to any room. The simplest crown molding will add elegance and sophistication to an otherwise basic home layout. But crown molding can also get expensive depending on how elaborate it is and the width. Luckily there is a way to take basic thin crown molding and make it look like a wide decorative crown molding instead. Here is make cheap crown molding look expensive.

Instructions

1. First measure the entire circumference of your room to see how many feet of crown molding you need to purchase. If your room already has crown molding then you only need to buy enough to circle the room once. If the room has no crown molding, you need to purchase enough to circle the room twice.

2. Go to the home improvement store and purchase your crown molding. It can be as decorative or as plain as you like, but it does not need to be more than about 2" to 3" wide.

3. If your room already has crown molding skip to step 4. If not, then you will need to apply crown molding all the way around the room as close to the ceiling as possible using a nail gun. You will need to use a miter saw to cut the corner edges to fit.

4. Next measure a distance of 4" to 5" down from the crown molding. You will need to mark this all the way around the room. It's easy if you can find an object or index card that is the correct distance and use that as a template.

5. Apply a second circle of crown molding with the nail gun aligning the top edge with the line that you just marked in step 4.

6. Paint both crown moldings and the empty space in between them white. Let paint dry and apply a second coat if necessary.

7. The result is an optical illusion that makes it appear as if there is one very large piece of crown molding surrounding the room.

Reupholster Chair Cushions

Chair Cushion

A great way to give a room a new look is by reupholstering the chair cushions. It is an easy and quick fix to spruce up any room. Upholstery fabric that is used on the chair can also be used for the window treatment. Old chairs can be brought back to life by reupholstering and can last indefinitely using this method. Whether the fabric is worn, the foam is flat or a new decorating look is needed, you can make use of old chairs by reupholstering. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Reupholster Chair Cushions

1. Turn the chair over and using a screwdriver, remove the screws on the bottom of the chair that are holding the cushion in place. Most of the time, these screws are located in the corners of the chair. When all of the screws have been removed, lift the chair cushion away from the chair.

2. Use a needle nose pliers and remove the staples on the bottom of the chair cushion. These staples are holding the upholstery fabric in place. When all of the staples have been removed, peel back the fabric away from the cushion.

3. Remove any foam that is remaining on the chair. When this has been removed, only the bottom board of the chair will be left.

4. Use the board as a guide and trace the outline of the board on a piece of foam. Cut the piece of foam along the outline.

5. Spray adhesive spray on to the foam and place the foam on the chair board. Press down on the foam so that it adheres to the board.

6. Place the board, foam side down, on the upholstery fabric. Bring the fabric up around the board to determine the measurements of the fabric that will be needed. The fabric should cover at least 2" of the board along the edge. Any excess fabric will be trimmed later. Using the scissors, cut the upholstery fabric to size.

7. Place the board, foam side down, on the upholstery fabric. Bring the fabric up the side of the board and staple in place on the top board. Start by putting the 1st staple in the middle to hold the fabric in place. Staples should be approximately 1" from the edge of the board. Continue stapling until the 1st side is secure. Do not staple the corners at this time.

8. Go to the opposite side of the board that was just stapled and repeat the same process. Then go ahead and staple the 2 remaining sides.

9. Pull the fabric at the corner on to the board. Make pleats with the fabric and staple to hold the pleats in place. Repeat this for all 4 corners. After the fabric is completely stapled, use the scissors to trim away the excess upholstery fabric.

10. Place the seat cushion on the chair frame. Using the screwdriver, replace the screws that hold the chair cushion in place. Repeat these steps for each chair that needs to be reupholstered.

Make Doll Closets & Beds

Create a cozy bed for your doll and a closet to store her clothing.

If you are a parent with a child who loves dolls, or a doll enthusiast yourself, you may have the dilemma of storing all of your doll's clothing neatly. If you are building a room or house for a doll, you will also need a bed for her to sleep in (which also a good place to store her when she isn't being played with). You can make your doll a custom made bed and a closet out of cheap materials that you can find at the craft store, or lying around your house.

Instructions

Doll Bed

1. Measure the height of your doll if you don't already know how tall she is and add 2 inches to that height--this is how long the bed will be. Measure your doll across and add 3 inches to determine the width of the bed. You can add as much extra room as you want.

2. Cut four of the 1/2-inch-thick wooden dowels with a saw to make the frame. Two of the dowels should be cut at the measurement you determined for the length of the bed, and the other two at the width. Glue all four together at the corners and wait about 4 hours for it to dry. Use a drill to screw the corners together to make it stable.

3. Make the headboard. Cut a flat piece of wood that is about 1/4 inch thick, 5 or 6 inches long and the width of the frame you just made. Attach it to the frame by gluing it about 1 1/2 inches from one end short end of the headboard, and letting it dry. Secure it by drilling screws through the headboard to the frame. Use this same process to make the footboard, but it should be shorter than the headboard.

4. Tie pieces of yarn across the width of the bed from one dowel to the other and double-knot to make them secure. Space them apart every 1/2 inch or so. This is what will hold the mattress up.

5. Make the mattress. If the frame is small enough, you can use a sponge. If your doll needs a bigger mattress, you can cut a piece of foam to the appropriate size. Cover the bare mattress with cotton fabric for a sheet but cutting it to size and sewing the corners together with needle and thread.

Doll Closet

6. Buy or reuse an old vinyl or cardboard under bed storage box with a hinged lid. Cover it with contact paper with a color or pattern that you like. Apply a decorate contact paper on the inside especially, to make it look like the inside of a closet with wallpaper. If an under-bed storage box is too large for your dolls, you can use a cardboard box instead.

7. Cut the straight section of a wire coat hanger at the width of the closet with a pair of bolt cutters, and add 2 inches of extra length. Poke a hole through both sides of the closet with a needle at the level you would like the close-hanger rod to be.

8. Feed the coat hanger wire through both holes and bend the ends down with a pair of pliers to keep them from sliding out of the holes. Stick tiny hooks to the inside of the door to hang your doll's accessories.

The Importance Of Ergonomics To Office Workers

America's office workforce commonly uses computers and completes tasks while sitting at a desk or table. This workplace environment can place incredible strain on the body, both from the sedentary position and repetitive tasks. Ergonomics places importance on proper posture and limiting the negative effects of office work environments.

Facts

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration notes that a good working position --- such as sitting up straight, head level and hands, wrists and forearms straight --- can greatly reduce the strain on muscles, tendons and the skeletal system.

Purpose

Although ergonomics may be a goofy issue to discuss at workplace, employers tend to greatly benefit from it. So, it is not that employees miss time at work because of the emphasis on ergonomics. Rather, it ensures that the company meets its productivity levels and continues to generate sales revenue.

Considerations

In a 2006 survey Steelcase, a furniture manufacturer, found that only 20 percent of 700 office workers knew the correct definition of ergonomics. Companies should consider implementing a training program so that managers and employees know the definition of ergonomics and learn properly use the knowledge.
